It was a week of gastronomic discoveries, a week when I definitely consumed far too much for my own good. How to lose weight when I received an invitation to dine at Shanghai JW Marriott Hotel KL? It’s one of KL’s first Shanghai restaurants, could very well be the first too. The décor in this restaurant is nothing short of opulent and is a feast for the eyes. I feel like I am dining at the Chinese Imperial Court here,

The menu is extensive and as can be expected, prices are steep. Prawn dishes are priced per person as are the soups and fish. For example, pan-fried cod with brandy is RM47 per piece, 2 prawns are RM22 per person and  hot and sour soup is RM37 per person.

shang

Can’t be dining at a Shanghai restaurant and not order “Xiao Long Bao” or Shanghainese dumplings, right? They do it so well here, the soup was oozing from the dumpling and the skin wasn’t too thick. Thumbs up for this.

soup

One of my favourite Chinese soups is hot and soup. This one had plenty of ingredients and didn’t disappoint one bit.

cod

Cod is one of my favourite fish and I can understand why it’s so expensive in every restaurant. The flesh is so tender and it’s great no matter how it’s cooked. This one may have had a bit too much MSG though as my cheeks were tingling madly with each bite.

prawns

This plate of prawns cost RM22 – maybe it’s premium Long Jin tea? The tea taste was mild and subtle and yes, it was worth RM22.

steamed

This dish is RM68 (half) and RM133 (whole), very tender and sauce was thick and rich.

fried rice

Of course, one has to have fried rice to go with all the dishes.
