Artists have moved away from attempting to carve the face in contour or highlight. Luminosity is the new sculpting. At MAC, Strobe Cream makes the skin look incredibly precious and super expensive. The Lustre trend is the 2nd under the “Nothing” category. It’s about bringing lightness and brightness to the complexion for a lustrous strobe-lit finish. A bounce of light on the cheekbones and high planes does automatically lend a degree of shaping that pulls out the features.

Technically, it isn’t about minimalism per se; in fact, layering and massaging in very specific light-reflecting products – notably Strobe Cream and Pearlized Cream Colour Bases plus moisturisers and fine textured foundations – is the secret to endowing skin with translucent, glazed luminosity, not that this needs to be particularly complicated in technique.

At London Woman Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2016, for the Vivienne Westwood Red Label show, skin is left clean without an application of moisturizer. Fingers were used to apply random marks across the face, using Eye Shadows in Gorgeous Gold, Stars and Rockets and Swish along with Vanilla Pigment. Vanilla Pigment used to buff and blend the eye shadows together to create the mother-of-pearl effect. Mixing Medium Shine applied over the entire face with the 186 Duo Fibre Fan Brush. Opaque marks over the skin were blended out with fingers to finish. Red Lipmix applied over the lips to complete the look.
