Rado is bringing RADOSTAR Prize 2011 back to invigorate the arts and design scene in Malaysia. Known as The Rado Young Design Prize in 2010, the design competition honours innovative and inspirational people who dare to challenge definitions and boundaries through their creativity in arts, work and philanthropic initiatives in addition to offering opportunities to young talents for local and global recognitions.
An epitome of iconic and groundbreaking innovations with exceptional quality, Rado pioneers the use of high tech materials in the production and design of watches. “Arts and design has always been part of Rado’s living philosophy. With a new theme entitled Share Your Unlimited Spirit, this year’s design competition promises to be bigger and bolder!
BIGGER.
A bigger range of categories will be introduced this year to reach out to more Malaysian arts and design enthusiasts whilst attracting more entries. From the existing 15 categories – animation, architecture, digital, fashion, graphic design, jewellery, illustration, installation, painting, interiors, photography, print, products, sculpture and video – two additional categories, Calligraphy and Fabric Design, will be included this year. This opens up more opportunities for a plethora of unseen artworks by potentially great designers in Malaysia.
BOLDER.
Bolder scoring system will be implemented to involve both online voters and professional judges. The new implementation will be based on a 30/70 ratio, where online voting and professional judging comprises 30% and 70% of the total scores respectively. Public votes will be taken into consideration in the selection of top five finalists. In addition, Rado will award a Favourite Designer based on the highest votes received from the public.
Alongside Mr. Yong, three distinguished Malaysian personalities who are highly reputable in their respective fields will join in the panel of professional judges. They are Khoon Hooi, renowned Malaysian fashion designer, Benson Saw, award-winning Malaysian interior designer who operates his business in design-centric London, Singapore and Malaysia as well as Zanita Anuar, Director of Museum Innovations at The Malaysia Museums Department.
This year, Rado will select three best entries from top five finalists where the winner of RADOSTAR Prize 2011 will win a Rado timepiece and cash prize of RM10,000 to help build their career or business. The 1st and 2nd runner-up will each receive cash prize and a Rado timepiece. Online voters are also invited to be part of the judging process. The voter with the most votes cast via www.radostarprize.my stands a chance to win a Rado timepiece. Only valid voters who provided accurate contact details are entitled to win the attractive prize. The competition is open to designers and creative minds in Malaysia where they can register and submit their entries online at www.radostarprize.my before 16 September 2011. The artwork of the Top 5 finalists will be selected and exhibited in the Concourse of Suria KLCC from 20 to 24 October 2011. The winner will be announced at the closing ceremony of the exhibition on 24 October 2011.
