A few days ago, I visited Rev Publika for my heel spur physiotherapy treatment. Rev is a very well equipped physiotherapy centre. It’s also the most spacious one I have been to as it’s also a gym which offers all kinds of equipment one can utilise as part of the rehabilitation process.

Unlike other physiotherapy centres I have been to, Rev offers biomechanic assessment in the form of Fit3D Posture Assessment. This is a 360 Degree Body Scanner to scan your posture in 360 degree. 360 Degree Body Scanner is one of the most sophisticated assessment tool in the industry, used by US fitness and training centres because they provide better, stronger data of your body health.

Other than accurately assessing body fat and muscle mass, it also gives you a complete picture of your balance and posture through its camera sensor. You can get your Fit3D Posture Assessment in just 3mins.

During my visit, my therapist whom I had made an appointment with was on emergency MC but I was immediately assigned another therapist so no complaints there. Throughout the almost 1 hour experience, the therapist was very professional and friendly. I was brought to one of the treatment areas for a brief calf massage and then to the shockwave machines.

Rev’s shockwave machine looks even more sophisticated than the one I am used to at my regular physio centre. A second/different shockwave machine was used on my heel after this one.

After my treatment session which included some light exercises to help relax my calf muscles which would alleviate the heel pain, I was given a brief tour of the premises. The most fascinating treatment for me is the cryotherapy treatment. Cryotherapy is an advanced recovery technology using extreme cold temperature applied by professional  athletes  commonly to relieve   inflammation, promote recovery from injury or strenuous training by boosting oxygen and nutrient delivery through better blood circulation.

I would love to try their localised cryotherapy which is a targeted form of cryotherapy that applies subzero temperature on specific areas of the body, speeding up recovery and promoting nutrient delivery, cellular regeneration in that area for purposes such as knee injuries, facial aesthetic and so on. I need this treatment on my heel!

Localized cryotherapy enhances blood circulation and pumps nutrient-rich blood delivery into specific areas, accelerating recovery in cells and relieves muscle tension with its effect on blood vessel constriction. The end result you get is an instantaneous relief in pain and tightness, better exercise performance and recovery from inflammation.

Cryotherapy treatment not only helps relieve pain. These are the other potential benefits:

Increase Endorphins – Whole Body Cryotherapy is a cold healing procedure and has been proven to have a positive effect on the physical and mental wellbeing because cryotherapy stimulates and increases endorphins in the body. When the body is exposed to extremely cold temperatures, it begins to increase endorphins.

Increase Collagen – To ensure proper collagen production, the cells need vitamins, minerals and healthy vascular function. During cryotherapy, blood vessels respond by a quick constriction to keep the core temperature and protect the organs and tissues and a rapid dilation when we are back to normal exterior temperature. By widening the vascular system, blood circulates better. It can eliminate waste and toxins more efficiently and allow the distribution of vitamins and nutrients. Receiving the ingredients they need, the cells are back to work and boost collagen production.

Burn up to 800 calories – The theory is that cold temperatures force your body to work harder to stay warm, burning calories in the process. Due to the freezing cold nitrogen vapor, your brain triggers your body’s survival mode. This results in the secretion of adrenaline and an increase in blood and oxygen to your skins surface, causing a boost in immunity, rapid cell renewal and an increase in metabolism. As your body is tricked into thinking it’s beginning to freeze, it will start breaking down that stubborn brown fat in order to raise your core temperature. Using a large amount of energy like this to heat up the body is what burns those pesky calories.

Tighten Skin – Whole Body Cryotherapy, or deep-freezing yourself in a reverse sauna chilled by liquid nitrogen, is the latest anti-aging therapy to hit the beauty scene. During the procedure, liquid nitrogen is sprayed on the body skin to cool the skin surface and temperature, which causes immediate vasoconstriction (or tightening) of the vessels.
