From where I parked @ Pavilion Bukit Jalil en route to Ecotopia, Absolute Siam and ICONCRAFT, it was quite a distance to walk. It took a few minutes to walk from the car park entrance and while making my way there, I came across Dai Cha Dim, which wasn’t open at 1015 am. They open at 11 am, good place for brunch, I made a mental note.
After the official launch of the new Thai lifestyle stores, I went to the concierge to check out the list of f & b outlets. There aren’t that many open, the concierge suggested I go to Level 1 but I wasn’t particularly drawn to any of the eateries there. Made my way back to Level 2 to look for Dai Cha Dim. For a first-timer to the mall, anyone might feel a little lost as the mall is massive.
Around noon, I found Dai Cha Dim which is kind of an indication of where my car park entrance was. All I remembered was the car park entrance was near the Brands Outlet store and a merry-go-round. Dai Cha Dim wasn’t that crowded when I got there but after I was seated, customers kept streaming in.
As usual, the waiter pointed to the code on the table to scan for the menu but I have limited data on my phone (VERY limited!) and so asked for the menu which was available. I prefer looking at menus than my phone. Menus are so much more comfortable to read, it’s easier to turn the pages of a menu but I digress.
Dai Cha Dim’s selections isn’t just limited to dim sum, there’s noodles and rice dishes. They have a set lunch menu too which didn’t really interest me but for those who may be interested, their set lunch promotion is priced at RM16.80 and available from 11am – 2.30 pm Monday to Friday. It includes a drink and choices are :
- Steamed Rice Chicken & Mushroom
- Steamed Rice Pork & “Mui Choy”
- Steamed Rice with Luncheon Meat & Pork Lard
- Steamed Rice with “Char Siu” & Pork Lard
- Steamed Rice Minced Pork & Salted Fish
This HK style restaurant has quite a lot of tables. A quick look at the decor inside and you might find yourself transported to a typical cafe in Hong Kong which serves roast meats, rice and noodle dishes as well as an assortment of dim sum.
The Char Siu and Wonton Noodles are springy and the sauce that coats the noodles is excellent, can tell it is premium quality. The char siu is tender and really tasty while the wonton taste more like sui kou dumplings. The noodles are imported from Hong Kong, according to the menu.
The Yong Chow Fried Rice comes in a big portion so if you are not that hungry, you can share with another person. It was slightly salty for me, would have been perfect if the salt level was lower.
The Lo Mai Gai or Chicken Glutinous Rice was average, I have tasted better from a dim sum place in Overseas Union Garden and that one only cost RM6.
The fish balls taste more steamed than deep-fried, not sure why it is steamed deep-fried when it doesn’t taste deep-fried at all. Average, tastes like fish balls at any yong tau foo stall. Doesn’t whet my appetite for more than a piece.
The portion of Chilled Mango Sago with Pomelo was a bit small and too sweet. This is one of my favourite Chinese desserts, used to be served this at friends’ and relatives’ weddings decades ago. This one is thick and creamy but they need to lower the sugar content for it to be more palatable.
The Chilled Mango Pudding also came in a small portion but much less sweet than the Chilled Mango Sago.
They have an assortment of tea time pastries, there’s a tea time promo too but I would need to be there at 3 pm to partake of a pastry and milk tea.
They have 2 other outlets located at Pavilion KL and Da Men Mall.
