Elixir de la Jeunesse?

Don’t we all wish for an eye cream that is multi-functional rather than have separate eye creams for hydration, puffiness, firming and dark circles? Well, Caudalie has come up with an eye cream that addresses all these issues – Premier Cru The Eye Cream which they call “the elixir of youth”. That always makes me skeptical until and unless I have tried it myself and I had this opportunity. I have been using The Eye Cream for a little over a month now.

So why has this eye cream garnered so many awards : “Beauty Excellence Prize” from Marie Claire in Spain, Russia and France and a few more? For starters, it targets all visible signs of aging around the eyes (I think it’s an eye cream for mature skin like mine!) : wrinkles, loss of elasticity, dehydration, malnourishment, dark circles, puffiness, dark spots and loss of radiance. Wrinkles and fine lines, I have more than a few, so I have been told.

To understand what makes The Eye Cream different from other eye creams, we should first look at the key ingredients which are Caudalie’s patents, named the “Caudalie Trilogy”:-

1) Polyphenols, the most powerful anti-oxidants in the plant kingdom, they block 100% of free radicals and are 10,000 times more effective than Vitamin E.

2) Grapevine Resveratrol stimulates the production of sirtuins (longevity proteins) and extends cellular life-span by 160%. It also activates collagen production to redensify the dermis and smooth wrinkles. It has anti-wrinkle and firming properties.

3) Viniferine, said to be the most effective natural molecule against all dark spots, corrects and prevents all dark spots (caused by the sun, ageing, acne, pregnancy, etc.) by regulating melanin formulation. It’s also said to be twice as effective as Kojic Acid and 17 times more effective than Vitamin C. Viniferine is also one of the key ingredients in Vinosource.

This beige coloured eye cream is dispensed from an elegant looking pump bottle. I have to hold my finger close to the pump to control the amount dispensed. A tiny amount is all that’s needed for both eyes but the texture of the cream is not too thick. It blends beautifully without any need to massage it in although a light, rapid tapping motion is recommended for a micro-draining effect.

Due to the two types of highlighting pearlized particles to improve the reflection and diffusion of light, my eyes have looked brighter and more well rested. There has hardly been a need for concealer since I started using this eye cream.

For me, the biggest improvement is that my under-eye area looks firmer and eye bags are less obvious. It does more than keep eyes hydrated, it has anti-ageing properties that work on me. It hasn’t minimised all fine lines yet but then I believe I still have another month’s usage out of it so I’ll see whether it works on fine lines after I’m done with it. I’m not saying that it’ll produce anti-ageing results for everyone because I believe skincare works differently on every individual, they may deliver slower or faster or no results at all.

The best way to apply this eye cream is by tapping it around the eye from the inside out, moving out toward the temples and towards the eyelids (3x). This eye cream does not contain parabens, phenoxyethanol, phthlates, sulfate, mineral oils.

Apart from using it around the eyes, the cream can also benefit the lip contours. I’ve been applying it sparingly and occasionally around the lips but I’ve not been that diligent. Anyway, this eye cream is far too precious, I have to keep it for my ageing eyes!

Premier Cru Eye Cream 15ml is available only at Sasa outlets and retails at RM295.

Note : Premier Cru Eye Cream was provided by PR at the launch event.
