Over the past month, I have acquired quite a number of meal deal vouchers. One of them was a mydeal voucher for RM20 nett per person to dine at Shabu One Lot 10. The clincher was the array of seafood shown in the pics. Just like most Asians, I love my seafood. I would choose seafood over red meats any time, any day.
It was only after I purchased the voucher that I realised how many online reviews there were on this restaurant, some good and some average. There were 4 of us (2 with vouchers and 2 without) and we had a choice of clear, herbal, hot and spicy (ma la) and tom yam soup. To eliminate the possibility of a sore throat from too much hot and spicy, we all agreed on clear and herbal soups.
As soon as you enter the restaurant, the drinks are on the left. There’s orange juice and Taiwanese herbal tea (don’t think there was any sugar added as the drink was quite bland) but there’s another sweeter version available. The orange juice is just watered down orange cordial.
There’s a section for the sauces, noodles, vegetables, seafoods, meats, beancurds, desserts and even some hot foods such as fish balls in curry sauce which weren’t that popular on the day I was there. The display of seafoods wasn’t disappointing even though the prawns were rather small and I didn’t see the point in taking them and having to peel off the skins for the little flesh there was.
There is a surcharge of RM5 for every 100g of unconsumed food and this was brought to our attention before we entered the restaurant, Fair enough as I am very careful in this regard. I believe in taking only as much as I can consume and it’s embarassing for me to leave behind unconsumed food.
The fish cakes must have been designed to appeal to kids because they were like charaben. The best was the fish of which I consumed bowls and bowls of. I didn’t quite care for the red meats or noodles which seems pointless in a steamboat buffet. After all, it only takes one bowl of noodles for me to feel almost full already leaving not much space for anything else.
Then there are desserts but not much choice -jelly and more jelly.
Overall, I think that the buffet is worth RM20 and not full price as there were only a few items that were completely appetising. I know that one does not go there for desserts so I won’t take the dessert selection into account. The sauce selection was quite good but the seafood and meats were average.
