Light & Airy : Shu Uemura UV Under Base Mousse SPF 30 PA+++

Some time last year, Shu Uemura reformulated its famous and bestselling makeup base, UV under base mousse SPF 30 PA+++. Thanks to a special feature on Shu Uemura’s UV limited edition mousse collection in The Star on 14th April 2011, I collected a 30g bottle of this product in Beige. I believe there are 2 other shades available, Pink and BB Beige. BB Beige may only be available in the limited edition collection.

According to Lisa Yap, Shu Uemura’s chief make-up artist, the UV under base mousse can be used in lieu of foundation for sheer coverage or as a make-up base to create flawless looking skin. I like this product for its light, airy texture. The bottle has to be given a good shake before releasing the foam.

Of course, unlike conventional sunscreen which is typically in the form of creams, this incredibly lightweight mousse never feels sticky on my skin. It is easily blendable and while it doesn’t cover pigmentation, it acts as a cushion between skin and make-up. It allows foundation to glide on smoothly and minimises the appearance of pores.

Beige is the shade which suits most fair skin tones and imparts a totally natural colour. I find that it does even out my skin tone and gives it a bit of a radiance/glow. With the new formulation of the mouuse, the product can be dispensed without having to up-end the bottle as was the case previously.

This is a good make-up primer with sufficiently high sunscreen for me although I am sure there are many who would like to see a higher SPF in this product. The full-sized version of this product is 65g/RM108.
