Official Launch Of Sungei Wang Old Shanghai Springtime Splendour

In conjunction with Sungei Wang’s Old Shanghai Springtime Launch, 36 senior citizens from Joy Haven Home for the Elderly and Rumah Orang Tua Victory were treated to an exclusive Chinese New Year Reunion Lunch at the shopping mall on Wednesday, 8th January 2014.

Apart from lunch, the guests were treated to a variety of performances from a lion dance to a Shanghai oldies singing performance from Yudi, dubbed as “The Pride of Bentong”. Yudi is a music composer, song writer and artiste and has been performing live for more than a decade since 1999.

The main objective of the launch is to spread the festive season’s joy and happiness to the senior citizens and playing the corporate social responsibility role. The senior citizens received red packets and goody bags from the Management of Sungei Wang Plaza.

Joy Haven Home for the Elderly is operated by The Salvation Army and is situated in Section 12 of Petaling Jaya. It provides residential and day-care facilities for men and women over the age of 65 years. The Home opened in 2001 and has a capacity of 20 residents.

Rumah Orang Tua Victory is a shelter home which provides support and medical care to destitute old folks. The Home currently has 45 residents.

Themed as Old Shanghai Springtime Splendour, the stage at Sungei Wang’s Concourse is set as a courtyard of ancient Shanghai dating back to 1930s-1960s. The back drop is mainly cardboard with a brick design similar to the Forbidden City of China with a small entrance opening in red just like an oriental courtyard. Bright oriental lanterns and red festive decorative paper and golden calligraphy words reflect the Lunar New Year ambiance.

Other events held during the month long celebration at Sungei Wang (from 8th January-9th February 2014) include:-

1. Old Shanghai Golden Melody Singing Competition which will be held at 2pm on 11th, 12th, 14th January 2014 for the Selection Rounds, 18th & 19th January 2014 for the PK Rounds and the Final on 26th January 2014 at Concourse Level.
2. Old Shanghai Springtime Splendour Fashion Show by Kenneth Hoong at 7.30pm on 17th January 2014 at Concourse Level.
3. Acrobatic Lion Dance Performance at 3.00pm on 2nd & 4th February 2014 Concourse Level.
4. Lion Dance Performance at 7.30pm on 24th January 2014 and 3.00pm on 9th February 2014.
5. God of Prosperity, Longevity & Happiness appearance at 5pm on 11th, 12th, 18th, 19th, 25th & 26th January 2014 Concourse Level.
6. Dragon Dance Performance at 7.30pm on 24th January 2014 & 3pm on 9th February 2014.
7. China Arts & Crafts Exhibition from 8th to 30th January 2014 Concourse Level.

Shoppers who purchase RM100 and above in accumulated receipts will be eligible to redeem a limited edition red packet pack with 5 unique designs. Redemption is on first come first served basis and can be made at the Customer Service Counter located at Level LG.
