Boryeong is a town around 200km south of Seoul and well known for its annual festival, the Borye9ng Mid Festival which takes place during the summer. The festival started in 1998 and takes place over a period of two weeks. The mud is transported from the Boryeong Mud Flats to the Daecheon beach area. The mud is considered rich in minerals and used to manufacture the products in Boryeong Mud Cosmetic. As posted earlier, Boryeong Mud Cosmetic products are now available in Malaysia. I had a chat with Mr. Lee In Haeng of Boryeong City Hall who was present at the official opening of Boryeong Mud Cosmetic outlet in Quill City Mall on 16th May 2015.

How did the partnership between Boryeong Mud Cosmetic and the Malaysian distributors of the brand come about?

During the Boryeong Mud Festival, we have overseas buyers visiting and business meetings are held them. A Malaysian company sought out Boryeong Mud Korea and it took about a year to finalise negotiations and bring the brand to Malaysia.

Please tell me more about Boryeong town.

Boryeong is the biggest beach area in Korea, it’s a tourist resort during summer. The beach is about 3.5km long. This beach is unique because while other beaches are sandy, Boryeong’s has corals and seashells. If you drive from Seoul, it’s 1 hour 40 minutes away and only 4 minutes from the highway exit.

Where is Boryeong mud from and how is it processed for the Boryeong Mud products?

In Boryeong, there is a very clean place, no contamination and there we get the supply of clay. There are stringent inspections to ensure pureness.

Government officials buy the products for themselves.
