Introducing Clarins Whitening Velvet Emulsion SPF 20 & Whitening Velvet Emulsion

This year, Clarins introduces 2 new products in the White Plus HP Sea Lily Enriched range – Whitening Velvet Emulsion SPF 20 & Whitening Velvet Emulsion. The main key ingredient in these products is Sea Lily, a white flower which originated from Asia Minor. Today, it can be found at the sandy shores of the Mediterranean and Atlantic coast of Brittany. Clarins has made it a protected species and it is now specially cultivated for Clarins in Brittany.

Sea Lily is the signature or main ingredient in Clarins White Plus HP, it has the ability to control the extension of dendrites – the “arms” of melanocytes which deliver melanin pigments to the epidermis.  Besides Sea Lily, the combination of active ingredients with whitening properties promises the widest protection against all factors contributing to hyperpigmentation, both inside and outside the melanocyte.

Besides Sea Lily, the other 2 key ingredients common to both the new products are Alchemilla extracts which help to slow down the excessive transfer of melanin to the epidermis and Raspberry extract which slows down the synthesis of melanin.

In conjunction with the launch of the new whitening products, I was invited to try out The Whitening Performer Facial at Clarins Skin Spa KLCC last year. I think that the results of this facial were even better than The Moisture Replenisher Facial. Thanks to the professional use supplements used liberally throughout this facial, my skin was really radiant and glowing afterwards. Perhaps it was also due to the expert massage techniques of the beautician.

Whitening Velvet Emulsion SPF 20 PA+++ (75ml/RM210) is enriched with meadowsweet extract and protects against shine due to the heat, facilitates make-up application and prolongs its hold. It also contains UV filters and white tea extract for protection against harmful environmental factors and sun. Although the texture of Whitening Velvet Emulsion SPF 20 & Whitening Velvet Emulsion are similar, I preferred the scent of this product to the Whitening Velvet Emulsion. Whitening Velvet Emulsion SPF 20 replaces Whitening Moisture Day Emulsion SPF 20 PA++.

Whitening Velvet Emulsion (75ml/RM190) is for day and night use. Other than Sea Lily, Alchemilla and Raspberry extracts, it has Parsley as its key ingredient. It is economical as it comes in a bigger than normal pump bottle (most brands’ moisturiser are just 50ml) and one pump is enough for application to the entire face.

I like the lightweight, non-pore clogging texture and I do find that it maintains my skin’s radiance and luminosity to an optimum level even without the usage of any whitening serum (I do forget to apply serum some days). Whitening Velvet Emulsion works on the microcirculation, where the active ingredients help revive complexion radiance and restore a transparent, rosy glow. The ingredients also help to enhance the natural draining mechanism in skin by increasing the resistance of blood capillaries.

Clarins recommends following this method of application for both products:-

1. Warm product in clean, dry hands, then place them flat on the face.
2. Apply product with pressing motions, starting on the middle of the face.
3. Continue the pressing motions on the cheeks, moving towards the ears.
4. Place hands on the forehead.
5. Continue application with pressing motions, from the middle of the forehead towards the temples.
6. Apply on the lower part of the face, with pressing motions from the neck towards the décolleté. First with the right hand, then with the left.
