All the bakeries in MidValley seem to be doing roaring business especially during lunch time. The bakery at AEON is almost always crowded as is Lavender. A stroll away from Lavender is the newest bakery in MidValley, Komugi. Can’t miss it for the wheat stalk decor. Komugi specialises in French and Japanese soft breads and handmade Japanese cakes, much as you’d expect to find in a bakery in Japan, I expect.
Komugi has a cake and macaron counter which is very popular. A few days ago, I was waiting my turn behind 2 metrosexuals. One of them was ordering just about every item in the cabinet – 1 of this, 2 boxes of that. I wonder if they were off to some metrosexual Chinese New Year party?
They have another counter near the cashiers’ which is less popular as I have never seen anyone asking for any of the cream puffs from there. Perhaps they’re too small and overpriced for that size? That’s just my opinion. I’d rather go for the cakes and breads. I’ve tried the honey roll which is rather cute with a bee cream design on top. The cream’s very fresh and combined with the honey, this gives my palate sweet satisfaction after my lunch.
Beef bacon & cheese RM3.50
Some of the cakes and breads do not have signs which means having to ask the staff. It’s important to label all products in whatever business because some customers won’t bother to ask what the unlabelled products are which means loss of revenue. So far I have stepped into Komugi 3 times and each time, it’s the same – about ¼ of the products aren’t labelled. How hard is it to label ALL the products? I think it’s harder to make the breads and cakes.
The first bread I tried was the beef bacon & cheese, chose that one because I love sesame. The more, the better. I love sesame in everything. I wish I could live in Sesame Land. Anyway, back to reality……there’s not much beef bacon in this one but I can taste the cheese which complements the smoky taste of the beef bacon. Still my favourite bread from Komugi.
Mango Delight RM3.50
Then either because I was feeling adventurous or because there were only 3 of these in the cabinet or maybe it was because I had never seen a bread that looked like a mango, I picked up Mango Delight which was as delightful to taste as it looked.
I’m not sure whether they used artificial colouring but the bakers really made it look like a mango. By the way, none of the labels have any descriptions of the breads so I couldn’t tell whether this one had any filling but presumably it did and I was right.
The filling is some kind of mango paste which tasted gummy and pasty. It has some mango pieces but they sure didn’t look or taste like they were fresh mango pieces. Okay, I may be wrong on that score but the taste can definitely be improved on as the filling was like glue. I would have expected better quality filling from Komugi and as for the bread itself, it was a little dry and too doughy. No repurchase here.
Komugi is located at LG-078 Lower Ground Floor of MidValley Megamall.
Yeah, I went to the one at Pavilion and came out with nothing. I mean it got me really interested when the place is still under renovation at MV but after coming out with nothing from Pavilion outlet, I’m not interested to go in anymore. Sigh.
Yeah, i think they should label it as i am the type “won’t buy if i dont see the price” and i am too lazy to ask. o, i will try check this shop next time. Yeah, Lavendar is always crowded and i dislike to wait.
From my observations, other customers also walk past the ones with no label. Most people will only buy if there’s a label and even better if there is a short description of the product. I’ll only ask what it is if I am really curious otherwise I’ll also skip.
komugi is also at pavilion tokyo street..i tried the mango delight.
