Although I have used Avène products, I was still lacking in knowledge about their products as they have so much more than just their world famous and best-selling Thermal Spring Water so when Vanity Trove organised a hands-on Beauty Workshop with Avène exclusively for bloggers, this was the perfect occasion to gain more of an understanding of the brand and its products.
For more than 250 years, Avène Thermal Spring Water has been recognized for its soothing and softening properties on sensitive skin. Avène Thermal Spring Water was successfully used as treatment of severe burns after the Great Fire of Chicago in 1871. This healing water comes from Avène-les-Bains (The Avène Baths) thermal spring in Southern France.
There are 3 different types of sensitive skins – allergic, intolerant and sensitive skins. Hypersensitive skins will often experience great discomfort while sensitive skins have symptoms such as itching, tingling and a pulling sensation. I know that many people with sensitive skins are very careful about what skincare they use as using the ones that don’t suit their skin will cause much more harm than good including making their skin red and itchy.
For oily skins, it is important to double cleanse and to use a water-based cleanser as using an oil-based cleanser will clog up their pores and cause skin irritations. Avène advocates following 7 skincare steps for healthy skin:-
1. Make-up removal
2. Cleanse
3. Soothe with Avène Thermal Spring Water
4. Tone
5. Treat
6. Moisturize
7. Protect from sun
Once or twice a week, use a facial scrub to remove dead skin cells which promotes better absorption of skincare into skin.
There were many skincare samples on our table and we could choose which ones we wanted according to our skin type. I’ll highlight the ones I used since I can’t possibly feature all of them here otherwise you’ll be reading this for longer than you want to.
Cleansing and Make-up Remover Micellar Lotion
Formulated with extra gentle cleansing agents and removes all traces of make-up from face, lips and eyes (didn’t sting my eyes, felt very soothing). Contains 96% of Avène Thermal Spring Water to calm skin redness and tightness.
Gentle Milk Cleanser
Specially formulated for dry and very dry, sensitive skins. This is an effective cleanser for removing all traces of make-up and other impruities.
Avène Thermal Spring Water
It’s not recommended that the cans be shaken otherwise this will cause loss of nitrogen. Spray the face starting from the forehead in a circular motion. Once would be enough. Can also be used with Avène masks or other compressed sheet masks to reduce skin sensitivity and increase hydration.
Gentle Toner
An alcohol-free toner formulated for normal to dry, sensitive skin.
Rich Hydrating Cream
For dry to very dry sensitive skins, this rich, creamy moisturizer that helps dry skin restore its hydrolypidic barrier and maintain its moisture balance.
Very High Protection Emulsion 50+
Has a lightweight and mattifying formula. Contains pumpkin seed oil which helps t regulate sebum production. I like the feel of this sunscreen as it didn’t feel sticky and absorbed into my skin easily.
Overall, this was an informative and fun workshop as we had a good choice of products to use and it’s always nice to share a table with nice and friendly bloggers (ladies, I am so glad you came along!).
Many thanks to Avène and Vanity Trove for organising this beauty workshop and for presenting the attendees with a customized beauty box full of Avène goodies, most appreciated and can’t wait to put them to good use.
i always like Avene products. They are really nice to use and affordable too. The Make-up Remover Micellar Lotion is really good. Remove all the makeup effortlessly.
Smart minds think alike! Micellar Lotion was my favourite product.
I always have the urge to buy their skincare as I do have sensitive skin but there are just too many. I stand in front of their shelves and browsing everything, then panic because everything looks promising haha. Then I walk away with nothing but their spray. Hmm,you make me want to buy the emulsion, I hate sticky sunscreen. Do you ever tried their aha bha mask?
No, I haven’t tried the aha bha mask. You have used it before or heard good review about it?
Aiyah I’m having my final exam so didn’t manage to attend the workshop 🙁
I only use their spring water so I’m not sure whether the rest are good. Dear Corrine can you review them? Since the price is a little high for me~ I would like to know whether they are good or not~
Okay, will review products!
Yeah looking forward to read it!
I always keep a bottle of their spray at my table to keep my face moisturized!
One of the better thermal spring water sprays around from what I have heard.
I used to use Bio-Essence Spring Water, I don’t know is Avene better than it? Same benefits?
I have never used Bio-Essence before. I would imagine both are good for soothing sensitive skins.
Agree!
I wonder will it works for acne prone skin like mine? mmmm~
Their Cleanance products are specifically for oily skin.
