Not that we have a shortage of Nyonya restaurants in the Klang Valley but I don’t frequent them because I like value for my money when it comes to eating out and often, I don’t get that in a Nyonya restaurant. If I want to eat really authentic Nyonya food at reasonable prices, I’ll go to Melaka to satisfy the craving and be truly satisfied with quality and quantity.

During Chinese New Year (yes, it was that long ago), I went to Penang Nyonya Subang Parade and while the food is generally above average, the portions are rather small. I had pie tee, curry laksa and cendol, all in petite portions.

The curry in the curry laksa was thick and creamy, very delicious but the vermicelli was finished in a few gulps. I don’t mind if there isn’t much chicken or seafood in my curry laksa but vermicelli is relatively inexpensive in this country and the portion could have been more generous since it was almost RM10 a bowl.

As for the cendol, good but I could have gone to most food courts and got a much bigger bowl for the price.
