Global warming is a serious climate change phenomenon that threatens our planet today. To raise awareness to Earth Hour, the global event is held annually to encourage individuals, communities, households and businesses to turn off non-essential lights for one hour to show their commitment to the planet.

Every year, Sungei Wang Plaza joins in this initiative together with millions around the world to send a powerful message to everyone. Tonight they turned off non-essential lights for one hour from 8.30pm to 9.30pm.

“As global warming continues to be a threat to our environment, our proactive action to preserve the planet is crucial. Henceforth, Sungei Wang Plaza is supporting Earth Hour to raise significant awareness to the public by having an enthralling event.” said Ms. Yuen May Chee, Complex Manager of Sungei Wang Plaza.

Standing tall right at Sungei Wang Plaza’s Main Entrance, a KL Tower replica made of used cans is being showcased. It is a great initiative to remind shoppers to practice recycling habits. To further enhance save the planet messages to the public, a lineup of fun-filled activities and mesmerizing performances including special appearance by IamNEETA has been planned as well.

Yuen also added that with the involvement of celebrities such as IamNEETA, it makes participating in Earth Hour more meaningful. In conjunction to the Earth Hour event, many outlets in Sungei Wang Plaza had turned off their non-essential lights to support Earth Hour 2016.

At 8.30pm, the non-essential lights in the mall were turned off. Then, Yuen, Mr Joseph Teo – Head of Marketing Communications of Sungei Wang Plaza and IamNEETA together with media were invited to light up the candles with a ‘60+’ symbol right at the Main Entrance of Sungei Wang Plaza signifying 60 minutes of lights off.

“Preserving the planet will be a continuous movement by Sungei Wang Plaza. To that, Sungei Wang Plaza will kick start our GO GREEN campaign in which we shared some go-green ideas to the public, tenants and owners”, Yuen added.

To garner more awareness for Earth Hour 2016, there will be Handmade and Eco Market set up from 18 March to 20 March 2016. Shoppers are expected to purchase eco products from an array of booths that are showcased at Concourse Level.
