Night Essence That Works As You Slumber

Since I finished using Hada Labo’s Retinol Lifting + Firming Essence, I have been on L’oreal’s Revitalift Intensive Night Repair Essence. It’s an anti-aging serum which targets lines/wrinkles and loss of firmness. It’s touted as L’oreal’s most intensive night repair serum.

L’oreal Paris laboratory has identified 8 key zones of Asian women (I guess that makes this an Asia exclusive product) that are prone to ageing, namely:-

This serum is extremely lightweight and watery so I think it should be suitable for even the oiliest of skins. Even though I don’t have oily skin, I always appreciate serums that are fluid and not heavy as these can be more easily absorbed into skin.

Our skin contains 8 natural lifters which are grouped according to three main functions:-

(1) The tightening lifters to naturally tighten the skin (4 lifters)

(2) The re-pulping lifters to expanse the dermis (1 lifter)

(3) The stabilizing lifters to ensure cohesion between the different layers of the skin and optimize the dermal-epidermal junction to facilitate biological exchange and communications, which maximises the effect of the tightening and re-pulping lifters (3 lifters).

Recognising that age alters these natural lifters and consequently surface wrinkles become more noticeable and skin eventually loses firmness, L’oreal Laboratories formulated Revitalift with the Dermalift Complex and Pro-Retinol A.

Dermalift contains a complex of polypeptides and yeast extract and was designed to stimulate synthesis of the 8 natural lifters (in vitro tests), including the stabilizing lifters, so that, by taking action on the dermal-epidermal junction, the formula can help skin re-tighten and re-pulp itself from within.

Pro-Retinol A is Revitalift’s active ingredient for improving the epidermis structure and contributes to epidermal thickening while smoothing fine lines and wrinkles. As we age, our epidermis becomes thinner which results in wrinkles and lines appearing, Pro-Retinol A  fights this aspect of aging.

So why the need for a night serum? According to L’oreal, cell renewal increases by 200% to 300% when night falls, making it the most ideal time for optimum skin repair. The serum is dispensed from the dropper (see pic below) and it has a slight scent which I find rather pleasant.

The bottle itself is well designed in a deep red colour. This clear serum has one of the nicest consistencies I have ever come across in a serum. It just feels as if I am applying a few drops of water on my face. It does have quite a moisturising effect even though it isn’t a hydrating serum.

So far so good as it has maintained my skin’s elasticity and resilience. I apply it rather liberally on my neck and collarbone. I won’t go so far as to say that I’ve noticed a decrease in the depth of the lines around my neck but it does seem to have a softening effect on the lines on my collarbone, somehow they don’t look so severe.

I haven’t been using a whitening serum during the time I used this serum yet I have noticed improvements in my skin tone in that my skin looks more radiant every morning. This serum really does work during my sleep.

The Intensive Night Repair Serum (30ml) retails at RM79.90. Other products in this range are the Day Cream SPF23/PA++ (50ml/RM51.90), Night Cream (50ml/RM54.90) & Eye Cream (15ml/RM46.90).

Note : The Intensive Night Repair Serum was sent by PR for review.

  1. Hi,

I just got the intensive night repair essence as a gift, and
I have never actually used something like this before. Could you tell me what are the directions for using it please? For example, how many drops should I squeeze? And do I squeeze the drop on my finger or directly on my face? Basically, how do I use it?

Sorry, really lost as to how to use this product. The instruction simply says to use it twice per day on a perfectly cleansed skin. Hope you can help.. Thanks and merry Christmas!

    • Hi

It all depends on whether you feel 1 or 2 drops is enough. I use minimum 2 drops because I apply to my neck as well. Squeeze it on to your palm and then rub your palms together a little but not until all the product is absorbed into your palms, press your palms against your cheeks and massage upwards, do the same for forehead and neck.

      Merry Christmas!

  2. I am man 47 years old and I am looking for something that can remove or decrease the lines. I have two lines each side of my nose, my cheek and surround my jaw. could I use L’oreal’s Revitalift Intensive Night Repair Essence. Know I am using L’Oreal menexpert (wrinkle de-crease) anti-wrinkle moisturizer. If yes, how can I use both…

    • As far as I am aware, Revitalift Intensive Night Repair Essence is for women. It may not be strong enough for men’s skin so I would recommend you use an essence or serum which is specifically formulated for men. However, if you still wish to give Revitalift Intensive Night Repair Essence a try, it is to be used before your L’oreal anti-wrinkle moisturizer.

  3. Hi there, is this products suitable for age 24-25? I’m wondering when to start on anti-aging products as i have started to see some fine lines probably from too much late nights.

  4. Hi, I would be appreciate if you can tell me whether the Revitalift Intensive Repairing Essense is a new packing from the Revitalift Intensive Night Repair Serum or a different essense. Can it be use for day and night or only at night time?

Meantime, for the Revitalift Anti Wrinkle and Firming product and the Revitalift Laser 3 product, which is recommended to buy for woman at early 50?

By the way, if i want whitening, can i also use Loreal laser white product together with the Revitalift? If yes, which one would you recommended to buy (cream and essense) and to tell me which one to apply first for the day and night.

Looking forward to hear from you.

  5. Dear Juniper
Thank you for highlighting the question to us.

    Hi, Alice.
Very interesting question you post here and I’m sure many others may have the same question too.
Actually Revitalift Dermalift Intensive Repairing Essense is the newly improved formula hence the new packaging. The usage also differs to day and night after cleanse and tone but applied before moisturizer. Revitalift Dermalift is recommended for women who are concern with wrinkles or finelines and lack of firmness to their skin. Whereas Revitalift Laser X3 is recommended for concerns with enlarge pores, finelines and lack of elasticity. So recommendation is base on individual skin concern and need and not just by age. I highly recommend you to visit L’Oreal Paris skincare counter at any leading store nearest to you for better recommendation from our Beauty Advisor. Should you need further information or clarification, please do not hesitate to contact us at info@my.loreal.com.

  6. Hi, i have started using the White Perfect Laser night cream and the serum and after 3 days i found my face rough just like the sandpaper. i have stopped using and it has been 7 days the roughness is still there. Does it means this two products are not suitable for my face and i have to discontinue using? Looking forward for your advise.

    • Dear Alice,
I’m sorry to hear of your experience. Our immediate advice is for you stop using all products on your face for the moment.
Please email your address and contact details to Info@my.loreal.com or call L’Oreal Paris Hotline at 03-77255045 for us to assist you further.

    • Hi, thanks for your email. i have stop using any products now. At first before i started using the White Perfect Laser serum and night cream, i have used the Revitalift Serum and Day cream for few weeks and found that its is okay for my skin without any skin allergic and therefore i decided to purchase the night cream together with the serum (White Perfect Laser) but it gives me skin irritation. I decided to use different range of the Loreal because i need whitening as well. Pls advise whether i still can continue to use the Revitalift Day and Serum later . Looking forward to hear from you.

    • Nothing will happen if you don’t have sensitive skin around the eyes but a lot of brands don’t recommend using skincare for face around the eyes. Having said that, I have used face products around my eyes without negative effects but it all depends on your skin sensitivity and it’s best if you did some research on whether the particular face product’s really suitable for the eye area.
