Thanks to an invitation to a chocolate workshop extended by Harrison Chocolate at their Harriston Signature outlet in Cheras, I discovered that Malaysians are equally capable of producing premium quality (I think it is even world class) chocolate. Harriston is a homegrown brand established by a family of dedicated chocolate makers who own Harriston Signature and Harriston Boutique. Founded by S.C. Teng in 2005, Harriston is now hailed as one of the largest homegrown chocolate makers and retail chains with 5 flagship stores in strategic locations in Kuala Lumpur, Penang & Pahang. Harriston has served more than 8 million customers from over 80 countries around the world with more than 150 line of products.
When I visited Harriston Signature this morning, it was initially quiet but very soon, buses of tourists came streaming in non-stop. The shop was a hive of activity. Being in this shop surrounded by a myriad of chocolate, I did feel like Charlie in the Chocolate Factory. You can view the chocolatiers hard at work through a large glass window and there is even a packing area where your boxes of chocolate are expertly packed for travel! Everything is done very professionally here and I was hugely impressed with the variety of different flavours.
We are used to seeing dark, milk and white chocolate but how many of us have seen or tasted the fourth type, ruby chocolate? Harriston recently launched ruby chocolate, dubbed the world’s fourth type of chocolate. It has a slightly sourish taste and is not too sweet, the colour is lovely and I think it’d definitely appeal to ladies. What is unique about this ruby chocolate is that it has a berry taste but contains no artificial colouring or flavour. With the introduction of ruby chocolate, Harriston proves that they are at the forefront of innovation thanks to their partnership with Barry Callebaut, a world leading chocolate manufacturer.
Harriston’s ruby chocolate range comes in two variants for now: the ruby chocolate thin strips bar and ruby chocolate coconut crunch bar. Both chocolates are available exclusively at Harriston stores under the Harriston Signature line.
Looking at the Harriston Chocolate products in awe, I was wondering how they could come up with so many different types of chocolate. The shop is rather spacious and full of all kinds of products. Not only do they sell chocolate, they also run a very popular chocolate DIY workshop (which I will blog about soon) so that their customers can indulge in a more authentic and informative experience. Available at all Harriston Chocolate outlets nationwide, the DIY workshops are open to everyone from all walks of life, the sessions are specially created for adults and children above 3 years old at a very reasonable fee of RM35. You get to bring home the chocolate made during the workshop, what could be better than eating your own chocolate creations?
