Just before Christmas, I was invited (along with other members of the media) to a food tasting session at Sugar (formerly Frozen) Bangsar. They have a new Comfort Food menu in collaboration with Chef Yenni Law. Previously, there were no hot foods available, just the delectable frozen treats in the form of ice creams and petit gateaux.
On the new menu are some interesting items such as Chicky Fries, Cauliflower & Kale Soup, Seafood Aglio Olio with Mussels, Shrimps, Squid and Mozzarella, Crispy Rendang, Deconstructed Bovril Beef Stew, Smoked Chicken and more.
This is healthy, hearty food for.any time of day. For starters, I especially liked the house-cut chicken spam with honey mustard sauce as it’s crispy on the outside and so soft inside, perfectly complemented by the honey mustard sauce. Nana’s Hearty Soup is also delicious as it’s thick and creamy & not at all salty.
There’s something for vegetarians in the form of Big Missy consisting of greens, idako, salted egg fish skin, tomatoes and edamame.
If you love seafood, try the Seafood Aglio Oglio, I ordered this and loved every bite of the mussels, shrimp and squid of which I thought was adequate but could have done with more spaghetti. That means there’s room for dessert after the meal!
For a more filling meal, try the 8PM Chicken which is smoked chicken, sweet potato chip and greens.
Chef Yenni Law’s signature crispy rendang is dedicated to MasterChef UK’s judge, Gregg Wallace.
Deconstructured Bovril is 48-hours slow-cooked beef stew with aromatic vegetables.
No meal at Sugar would be complete without their wonderful ice cream.
