Two weeks ago, I was loaned the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra for this review. As expected, it is heavier and has a bigger screen (6.8 inch) than the S22 and S22+, both of which I have reviewed earlier. The S22+ has a 6.6 inch screen. My first impression was that this is one heavy duty and highly durable phone which I find a bit too big for my hand. I do still prefer the size of the S22, that one fits in my pocket so nicely.

However, it feels so “on trend” and ultra chic carrying around this S22 Ultra. For one thing, just the display is brighter than the S22 and S22+. Honestly, I am awed by looking at this phone and I haven’t got to the features yet. This is one sophisticated looking phone which looks premium because it does have a premium price.

It comes in 4 shades and I am glad I got burgundy, a really beautiful shade which I absolutely love. It has the fastest chip ever on any Samsung phone. No problem viewing anything on the screen in bright sunlight thanks to the Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with Vision Booster. Can’t get better than this.

One of the best features of the S22 Ultra has to be the in-built S Pen at the bottom of the phone. So much better than a separate S Pen which can be misplaced. It’s so easy to just pop it out of the phone and when you’re done with it, push it right back into the phone. Guaranteed never to be misplaced.

The other great feature of this phone is the super duper fast charging. It charges even faster than the S22 and S22+. Just like the other 2 S series phones, you can expect a long-lasting battery. It won’t go down much even if you have no access to charging it all day.

Fantastic/outstanding sound quality
Fantastic/outstanding sound quality

Everyone has different expectations from a phone. Some want superb photo qualities, I think the S22 Ultra delivers on that score but for me, I want outstanding sound quality. The sound on the S22 Ultra doesn’t disappoint. It’s so much better than my A32 and A33. Not saying the sound of the A series isn’t good but compared to the S22 Ultra, the Ultra is in a class of its own, crystal clear sound.

Thank goodness there were no accidents with the S22 Ultra, meaning I didn’t drop it, not even once. Just holding the phone, you will know without being informed that this is one tough phone. The polished Armor Aluminum frame acts like a suit of armor, and the front and rear are equipped with the tough Corning® Gorilla® Glass Victus®+. And both Galaxy S22 Ultra and S Pen are IP68 rated.

The size of the screen is simply awesome for watching dramas – no having to squint reading subtitles. Probably the best phone ever for watching long videos. It’s uber-cool to take out this phone from my bag. Of course it feels seriously good to be holding this as it’s so top-of-the-range. It’s like when you drive a Ferrari, same feeling.

I won’t go into the specifics of the camera because there’s no doubt it takes professional grade photos and it’s been reviewed in detail elsewhere. I have not taken that many photos with it in the time allocated to me for review but the camera isn’t the feature I am most impressed with. I’m satisfied with the cameras in my A32 and A33 even though I know the S22 Ultra photos are of a higher grade. Like I said, everyone has different expectations from a phone. For me, the best features are the S Pen which I used for games and the superb display and sound (incomparable).
