Yesterday saw the start of the MAC Me Over event at KLCC’s Centre Court where MAC-overs were offered with hairstyling and Polaroid pics included. It’s an opportunity for MAC’s regular customers and ladies who have yet to try MAC’s make-up to get makeovers. It was also my opportunity to have another chat with Haritha Shan about the MAC Me Over Collection, a 3-part collection featuring different looks. The first features MAC’s artists’ favourite nudes and pinks, including classics and new limited-life shades while ther other 2 (looks) go bold, one with the season’s of-the-moment shades while the second plays it icy cool.
What are your favourite/must-have products from the MAC Me Over Collection?
Haritha : There are 2 namely:-
(1) Shadesticks as they are water-resistant and good for humid climates. Use it on its own or use it as a base. Cake Shop Shadestick (frosted pewter) can be used as a base and then dab eye shadow on top. Blend for a stronger effect with more impact.
(2) Fluidlines as you can use them as eye liners and as eye shadows. To use as eye shadows, take the 227 brush to smudge and blend fast. The 213 tapered brush can also be used to blend for a smoky effect and to create deeper and stronger colours. For the first time, MAC has come up with some very different colours for the Fluidlines, before it was just blues and blacks.
Can the products in this collection be used to create the looks in the Fall Trends?
Haritha : The products in the MAC Me Over Collection were used to create the looks on the winners of the MAC Me Over Contest. The make-up was used to create the looks in the Mod-ernist, Amber-Gris and Tough-Love trends.
The 226 small tapered brush gets a lot of attention online and I understand it’s only available once a year (limited edition). Could you please share with us what makes this brush so unique?
Haritha : MAC doesn’t have specific brushes for specific usages. For e.g., the 190 brush can be used for applying concealer, powder and foundation. The 226 brush is a bundled brush which is amazing brush as it makes it easier to blend eye shadows and concealers too. It’s refined and really sharp which makes it impactful for a nice contour or crease on the eyelids.
This collection is divided into 3 parts and housed in 3 separate displays. Are the colours of the 3 different parts co-ordinated so that they will match whatever looks which one wants to create with any of the products from the collection?
Haritha : The 3 parts were created according to the skin tones of the 6 MAC Me Over Contest winners. Each part complements the other, you can mix-and-match.
This collection contains several dark and dramatic lipsticks, e.g. Prince Noir, Smoked Purple and Runaway Red. Some customers may not be used to wearing such dark colours and therefore might shy away from them. What is your advice to those who may not be used to using some of the darker and more dramatic lip products from this collection?
Haritha : If someone is not used to wearing dark lipsticks, mix it with a lighter shade of lip gloss and the deep plum lipstick shades can be transformed into sweet pink shades.
The Evil Eye Quad consists of 2 matte eye shadows, Spellcaster & Evil Eye. They are rather chalky and powdery, difficult to swatch and use on their own. How does one use them to maximum advantage?
Haritha : Complement the mattes with a lighter shade, use a base first. Using the 226 brush, pick up the mattes minimally, do not pick up too much. Alternatively, use the Fluidlines as a base and then layer on the mattes and the Fluidlines will hold the mattes.
How does one use the Evil Eye Quad on light/fair skin tones and medium/dark skin tones?
Haritha : For lighter skin tones, pick up of the shades should be minimal and not too intense. For darker skin tones, use more of the plum and grey shades, in particular Palace Pedigreed and Spellcaster.
For those who are very new to MAC or those who have not used MAC products before or those who are rather skeptical and unsure about the brand, what can the MAC Me Over event offer them or in what way can they benefit from it? Why do you think they should go for a MAC Me Over?
Haritha : Everyone would love a makeover. If you interviewed anyone on the street, they’d all say yes to a makeover. Our makeup artists are here to change and transform you. If you’ve never used a colour like green before (which by the way is flattering to yellow skin tones), it’s time to be experimental.
What is the message MAC is trying to convey with this collection?
Haritha : It goes back to MAC’s credo – all ages, all races, all sexes. MAC Me Over is also for men. One of the MAC Me Over Contest winners is a man, Ian Marc Saisselin.
Do we need to purchase to join the makeover? I called to MAC,Mid Valley and the makeup artist said must purchase above RM200, then only entitle for the MAC Me Over makeover.
I just checked with MAC KLCC that it’s complimentary at KLCC Concourse Area but you do need to purchase at MAC MV.
