Almost at the end of Autumn Cicada, the WWII Japanese Occupation of Hong Kong drama which I have been avidly watching for weeks. I can probably watch the raw version (without English subtitles) somewhere but I prefer the subtitled version for greater clarity and complete understanding. I really like the frequent Japanese dialogue between some characters.
I have 6 episodes to go including tonight’s, I am watching on YouTube which airs 2 episodes on Mon-Wed at 8pm and 1 episode from Thurs-Sun at 9pm. I guess main protagonist Major Ye Chong’s double identity as Communist spy, Autumn Cicada will soon be revealed to the suspecting Japanese. Ye Chong’s foster father from Tokyo, General Ueno Kiyoizumi is in Hong Kong to oversee the military affairs. Great job in casting as General Kiyoizumi looks fatherly yet sinister. I am dying to find out why Ye Chong was grabbed from his mother as a child in Shanghai by General Kiyoizumi and whether his biological mother is still alive.
The other main protagonist, businessman cum Communist supporter Chi Cheng has been imprisoned by main antagonist, Major Miyamoto who suspects that Chi Cheng had a hand in blowing up the Japanese ship carrying military supplies including armaments. As yet Ye Chong and Chi Cheng are unaware that they are working for the same side although Chi Cheng should know by now as Ye Chong has been surreptitiously handing him information about the Japanese.
Love this drama and wish there were more than 49 episodes but I think there can’t be much more to the story development since the Japanese are already trying to confirm their suspicions about Ye Chong’s real identity.
