Katy Bacon, Director of Education, APAC, Murad Skincare introducing the new Retinal Resculpt Overnight Treatment

It has been a long time since I last met Katy Bacon, Director of Education, APAC, Murad Skincare. To be precise, it was April 2019 when I first met her at Murad’s launch of their Prebiotic Series but it looks like she has not aged a day, definitely thanks to Murad Skincare. She was looking ageless, radiant, beautiful, elegant and poised at the recent launch of Murad Retinal Resculpt Overnight Treatment. I sat down with her for an exclusive one-to-one interview after the launch @ Tap Room, Bamboo Hills.

Where is the first country to launch Murad Retinal Resculpt Overnight Treatment?

Katy : USA and Malaysia is the 1st to launch among the Asian countries.

It may be a bit confusing for us to differentiate between Retinol and Retinal.

Katy : It’s whether you are a Type O (Preventive) or a Type A (Corrective). A Type O would be recommended Murad Retinol Youth Renewal Serum while a Type A would be recommended Murad Retinal Resculpt Overnight Treatment.

What age would Murad Retinal Resculpt Overnight Treatment consumers most likely to be?

Katy : Older people around 45 years and above. Those experiencing loss of firmness, deeper lines and wrinkles, perimenopausal and menopausal women. Males and females facing profound changes in their skin. 30% of collagen is lost in the 1st 5 years of menopause followed by 2% every subsequent year.

How many years did it take to develop Murad Retinal Resculpt Overnight Treatment?

Katy : It took 6 years to work on this new Retinal product. Murad saw a gap in the market when it comes to aging products. 1 in 10 people aging are going to be over 60 which is a vast majority of the population.

Murad Retinal Resculpt Overnight Treatment & some of its key ingredients

How does Retinal work?

Katy : Retinal works to stimulate cell growth, produces new collagen, cell regeneration & cell turnover.

So Retinal is for night time usage?

Katy : Retinal is specifically for night time. Skin is in defense mode during day time. At night, skin is more alkaline, there is regeneration at night. DNA repairs during sleep. At night, our body is able to regenerate so Retinal can be very effective.

Some people have said they are sensitive to Retinol products so is Retinal suitable for sensitive skin types?

Katy : Sensitive skin types can apply it every other night. They can also buffer skin by applying a moisturiser first.

Does Murad Retinal Resculpt Overnight Treatment have to be used with a moisturiser?

Katy : It can be used with or without a moisturiser.

Other than Retinal, what are the other key ingredients?

Katy : Kangaroo paw flower and olive leaf extracts help improve saggy appearance, smooth wrinkles and support resilience, while oat lipids and alpha glucan help replenish ceramides, increase moisture and soothe skin. Oat lipids are nourishing and mimic skin ceramides closely. Olive leaf extracts help with moisture loss.

One of the key ingredients is the kangaroo paw flower, why is it a key ingredient?

Katy : Kangaroo paw is native to Australia, can be found in many backyards and contains flavonoids, a powerful antioxidant.
