If you’re looking for a hotel to stay in Melaka, I’d recommend The Pines as I stayed there 2 weekends ago and in one of their 14 poolside suites, no less. As I highlighted in my earlier post, The Pines Melaka offers a variety of rooms. My 1-night stay was courtesy of The Pines Melaka as were the tickets to watch the relaunch of Encore Melaka. Other types of rooms include the Junior Suite, Executive With Balcony, Premier Room and 2 Bedroom Executive Suite.
The Pines Melaka is the first hotel in Malacca to have poolside suites. Selected rooms feature a podium deck that opens up to the pool. Dive into the salt-water treated pool right from the comfort of your own Poolside suite, or simply lounge on the sun bed without having to leave your room. I was so looking forward to having a dip in the 2-foot-deep pool right at the balcony of my room. Salt-water pools have lower chlorine levels and thus are gentler on your eyes and skin, so you can enjoy a great time here minus the harsh elements of a conventional chlorinated pool.
Although the Poolside Suite doesn’t have a work desk (which meant I didn’t switch on my laptop for the duration of the stay), its selling point is the direct access to the pool. It’s the 1st time I have stayed in a hotel room with a private pool shared only by the other 13 poolside suite occupants but when I took my long-awaited dip the next morning, there was only 1 other person at the far end of the pool which meant I practically had the entire pool to myself, a rare luxury indeed.
Parking is complimentary at The Pines Melaka. All guests have to do is get the ticket endorsed at reception before leaving. It’s also easy to find parking space even on a Sunday afternoon. Behind the hotel, one can walk along the river or board the regular river boats. It’s very picturesque at night with lights all along the river and the bridges are extremely Instagrammable.
But back to the hotel room – lack of work desk notwithstanding (that means it’s all play and no work in the Poolside Suite, capiche?.The washroom is not that spacious but adequate and there is a pretty box of amenities, e.g. sewing kit, shower cap (that’s very important for me).
Lounging on a sun bed in the privacy of your own room feels great as there’s nothing like having your own private space. There are towels on the sun beds, so you don’t need to use the towels in the bathroom. This is the plus point of the Poolside Suites.
From the pool, one can gaze at the city beyond, and the river is also visible. If it wasn’t for the rain after my breakfast the 2nd day, I’d have had more time in the pool. I could only get into the pool around 11am when the rain stopped.
The Pines Melaka’s coffee house is The Oak and breakfast is available from 7am to 1030am while lunch is from 11am to 3pm..
The Pines Melaka’s rooms are among the largest in Melaka. They offer spacious accommodations ranging from 31 m2 to 91 m2 that are suitable for business travellers as well as holiday goers. The service from all the staff at The Pines Melaka are excellent. They’re very helpful and efficient. Check-in and check-out process was speedy. The elevators at The Pines Melaka are fast and it’s the same set of elevators that goes to the rooms and parking.
Special mention must be made – Mr. Charles Liew, GM of The Pines Melaka really goes out of his way to make every guest feel at home with the warmest hospitality and care. The next time I am in Melaka, The Pines Melaka will definitely be my 1st choice of accommodation and it’ll have to be the Poolside Suite again as I didn’t get to spend enough time in the pool due to inclement weather.
