One of the most famous and popular facial salons in Malaysia is AsterSpring and I’ve always wanted to try one of their treatments. I was curious about their treatments as I’ve heard others raving about them. Only one way to prove that they were right – try one of the treatments for myself.
Attendees of the launch of AsterSpring’s Signature Touch were given vouchers for their newly launched O2 Acu Energizing Therapy. Naturally, the Signature Touch massage techniques would be employed during the treatment. My appointment was at one of their signature salons at 1Utama.
To my surprise, AsterSpring at 1Utama is a lot more spacious and bigger than what it looks like from the outside. There’s even a seating/waiting area after you pass the reception and there are 14 treatment rooms. The treatment rooms aren’t claustrophobically small either. There’s enough room for a small cupboard where you can store your clothes and belongings.
Instead of a blanket, customers are covered with a duvet. The only thing that could have made the session more comfortable would have been a pillow underneath my knees. My therapist had already determined my skin type and concerns after a short consultation outside.
The session began with cleansing milk followed by a scrub. The 2nd cleansing was lovely as she used a cleanser with a creamy texture combined with oatmeal, not the type for consumption of course. It’s for their professional use only. Although I’d already had breakfast, the scent triggered my stomach juices and whetted my appetite.
While the therapist cleansed my face, the steamer was on and it was still over my face for about 10 minutes after the cleansing was completed. The extraction was over in 10 minutes, not too bad since my last facial was just 2 weeks ago and one can’t possibly accumulate that many blackheads in a fortnight?
Then it was on to the massage with the Signature Touch. To reiterate, it consists of three unique hand techniques to facilitate relaxation and rejuvenation. It administers gentle presses on the body’s solar plexus to circulate nourishment to skin cells, light pulsing on the face to promote gentle drainage of toxins and smoothing effleurage with light kneadings on facial muscles to ease tension and promote active circulation of blood and energy.
It’s quite different from the strokes employed during European (Estee Lauder) or Japanese (Shiseido) facials. The Signature Touch focuses on detoxification/lymphatic drainage so you can expect the therapist to use her fingers to press on certain parts of the face. She does use her knuckles and palms as well although most of it was light pressure with her fingers.
If you love facial/shoulder massages, the Signature Touch at AsterSpring will not disappoint as it’s 25 minutes of sheer bliss and relaxation. I liked the shoulder massage a lot and I guess the combination of their massage cream and essential oil made the massage a whole lot more enjoyable. They have different essential oils for different skin types, e.g. dry, oily. sensitive.
After the massage, it was on to the treatment proper. A hydrating serum was applied on my face and the therapist brought in a machine which had a device attached to it. The device had a suction which was placed on different parts of my face to pump oxygen into the pores. Very interesting!
Then the therapist applied a cooling gel mask on my face with a brush and brought in another machine. This one had a device with a soft head which was moved all over my face. First the sensation was warm and then it was cool. This one promotes blood circulation. I thought it was very different from any other facial I’ve experienced.
The last part of the facial was the mask. A gauze was placed over my face and then a fluid paste with an oatmeal scent was applied over the gauze. By this time, I was really feeling hungry. This oatmeal mask had such a delicious scent that I was imagining a bowl of Nestum in front of me.
My complexion was a lot brighter and my skin felt much smoother and supple after the facial. This is one of the more memorable facials I have experienced and I’d recommend the O2 Acu Energizing Therapy if anyone asked me what facials are good for boosting skin vitality.
The O2 Acu Energizing Therapy is RM388 but currently, it is available at RM268 and they are giving a 3 pieces of sample skincare to customers who have this facial. An AsterSpring facial is worth the price and I can now understand why so many people have nothing but praise for their treatments.
Lovely! I would love to try it. 😀
Sound great! My skin needs it…
