When you have a few hours of transit at an airport, haven’t you found yourself wishing for a bed to lie on and for a hot shower to refresh yourself before your connecting flight? Transit hotels at airports have become popular because there are many people willing to spend just so they can have a comfortable snooze before their next flight.
This morning I took the KLIA Express to KLIA2 for the launch of Capsule By Container Hotel, Malaysia’s first transit hotel there. Opened by hotel group, ZU Container Sdn Bhd (ZU Container) to serve the targeted 45 million annual visitors to the airport, the 3,300 square-foot hotel is the latest addition to the company’s portfolio, the first being the Container Hotel located near Jalan Bukit Bintang.
Designed to be minimalistic yet mindful of their guest’s creature comforts and not compromising on must-have short stay facilities, the hotel consists of 79 capsules (41 for women and 38 for men). Ryan Loo, Chief Executive Director of ZU Container said “Capsule is designed to provide flexible, high quality and affordable accommodation for travelers to refresh and recharge on-the-go”.
The hotel provides denominations of 3, 6 and 12 hour packages priced at RM45, RM70 and RM90 respectively. which includes a locker, shower, lounge access, free Wi-Fi and a bedroom for patrons to refresh and rest before their next flight. Guest are also given the flexibility to select specific services at a la carte rates, such as one time shower at RM15 or locker rental at RM20 each per day.
Capsule Hotel uses recycled construction materials to ensure environmental sustainability and enable the hotel to charge affordable rates. Vincent Tan, Chief Design Officer of ZU Container said that Othorest mattresses are in each capsule to ensure guest’s comfort.
The Capsule Hotel idea comes from the concept of “Kyosho Jutaku” which in Japanese means living large on a tiny footprint by building a nice and compact house utilizing only a very small space.
Travellers are able to pre-book their rooms online or walk-in for the same price. In conjunction with its grand opening, the hotel announced a special rate of RM9.90 for the first 300 online bookings before 30 June 2014.
