Dermalogica® launched AgeSmart™ SkinPerfect Primer SPF30 a few weeks ago. Of course, a Dermalogica® primer isn’t your average primer which is just for makeup purposes. This one comes with skincare benefits since it’s always been the brand’s objective to give everyone healthy skin.
The new primer is described as a “two-in-one product” because it smoothes, protects and conditions skin while correcting surface irregularities and creating a luminous finish. It can be worn on its own like makeup or as a first step to extend the coverage and wearability of concealer and foundation.
It contains natural earth minerals to blend away discoloration and enhance luminosity while polymers prime the surface with a soft, matte effect. There’s also a potent mix of antioxidant White Tea, peptides and Sodium Hyaluronate as well as sunscreen made up of Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide.
Actually, it’s a “three-in-one product” if you consider that it’s also an anti-ageing skin treatment because of the Soy Protein that helps even out skin tone and stimulate cell renewal. The new primer comes in a slim, long tube with a small, narrow tip for dispensation.
During the launch, guests were invited to try the primer on their knuckles. Some of us (like me) have fine lines on their knuckles so this would be a test of what difference the primer could make. Although the fine lines don’t completely vanish or are concealed, there is a smoothening of the skin surface and the area on which the primer has been applied looks brighter.
I have been applying it all over my face and despite the presence of silicones in this primer, my skin doesn’t feel that artifically smooth but I can feel the presence of silicones. It takes on a more even-toned look even before I apply foundation and powder. Although the primer looks like a dark beige and is quite thick, it doesn’t make my skin look darker and it applies very well without any uneven patches or streakiness. It keeps skin matte-looking all day so that foundation stays put.
This is one of the nicest scented primers, in my opinion. I think it’s the scent of White Tea? I guess SPF30 might be sufficient if you’re not going to be outdoors most of the time but I’d still put on a higher sunscreen before using this primer.
