Among the new brands that have become available in Malaysia is the world famous Eve Lom and those who are familiar with the brand would surely know about their Cleanser which has rave reviews and been described by Vogue as ‘probably the best cleanser in the world’. Apparently, it is more than just a cleanser as it also exfoliates and tones. I haven’t seen it myself, let alone touch or smell it. It has a signature blend of four aromatic plant oils. However, contrary to what some people think, it’s hard to feel excited about a product (even if it has a certain cult status) which I have not even laid eyes on. This review is only possible thanks to my intrepid guest reviewer, Lynnett who has tried and tested the product.
Here’s her review:-
So, this jar of green grainy-looking balm is dubbed ‘miracle in a jar’. Well, it obviously comes in a jar but whether it’s a miracle, you’ll find out in a minute (or two…or three). Hailed from the UK, this cleansing balm cleanses, decongests, exfoliates, tones and moisturises, all in one easy peasy step. Unfortunately, it doesn’t come with a spatula but I have my own so I use it to avoid getting water in the balm. In my honest opinion though, I would much favour a tube packaging if I’m given a choice.
The balm looks grainy when you catch a glance of it but it doesn’t feel so when you apply it on your face. I love the salve-like texture and the strong herbaceous scent; I find it so calming and it’s just right for my nose but I definitely will not recommend it to those who don’t fancy the heavy scent of herbs and essential oils. I only needed a pea-sized dollop and a wee bit of water to get going. For me, the small amount of water is crucial to emulsify the balm. I tried it without water and it was a pain in the neck as the balm became sticky and difficult to apply on face when it got into contact with dry hands/face.
I’d recommend this product for night use as it is a tedious effort to what is usually a 1 minute-maximum routine. It’s definitely not to be used in the morning as you’re not supposed to rush the spa ritual-like process. It is also best to use the included woven muslin cloth to wipe off the cleanser. Trust me, I tried it without and it was also a pain in the neck to remove sans cloth; I felt like my face was still unclean and oily.
It does leave my skin thoroughly cleansed and moisturised. Best thing is, my skin doesn’t feel taut at all. I’ve been using it sparingly just because I love the product (but I just can’t afford it now). I’m praying day and night that someone will reward me with another one for my birthday. Oh wait, my birthday’s passed so I’ll pray for Christmas! I think I like it mainly because I’m too lazy sometimes to put my toner, moisturiser and the likes so with this, I can just slather it on and be done with it.
But (and there’s ALWAYS a but) it isn’t actually as simple as it sounds, considering that you need to spend some time massaging the balm on your face and then wiping it off with the muslin cloth soaked in hot water then cold to exfoliate and close pores but I honestly don’t mind going through the hassle for my skin. Personally, I don’t mind this product at all. I won’t really go out a limb here and call it a miracle cleanser but it does get the job done. And I love the idea of enjoying a facial every now and then, it’s just that I can’t afford to do it every other month because I don’t have that kind of moolah to so this spa-in-a-tub allows me to do a DIY facial. If you really want to know, I do find it quite pricey for a jar of balm which doesn’t even come with a spatula (what the heck, I know) and that can really turn you off if you’re the OCD type that doesn’t like to stick your fingers in a jar. I am that type but I do have some leeway.
So after five paragraphs of rambling, this is my overall verdict : love it but not enough to repurchase it (not now at least); would love it again if I get it for free! Whee!
The Eve Lom Cleanser retails at RM295/100ml.
Until next time, ladies!
