Hilton Worldwide celebrated its third annual Global Week of Service, October 19-25 where more than 300 volunteers from Hilton Kuala Lumpur came together to participate in various activities during the week-long celebration. Community service is an integral part of Hilton Worldwide’s culture, and acts of volunteerism occur year-round across their portfolio of eleven distinct brands and more than 4,200 properties. Hilton Kuala Lumpur’s efforts were a part of Hilton Worldwide ‘s week-long annual celebration of the company’s commitment to serving and enriching the local communities. This year, Hilton Worldwide participated in more than 3,000 hands-on service projects globally.
The Global Week of Service project in Hilton Kuala Lumpur kicked off with a masterchef baking class headed by the Hotel’s dedicated team of pastry chefs to students at the Montfort Boys Town. Then, a cookie sale was organized hotel-wide to help raise funds for two beneficiary organizations – Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB) and Malaysian AIDS Foundation (MAF), in an effort to help the organizations continue their work and contributions to the community.
More than RM14,000 in total was raised in five days where all hotel Team Members were involved in the sale of the cookies. The funds were presented to the organizations during the celebration event held at leveL7even, Hilton Kuala Lumpur. During that event, MAB was pitched against MAF in a pizza assembly and cupcake decorating contest with the participants’ blindfolded. I think it is a lot harder to decorate cupcakes blindfolded than to assemble pizzas blindfolded!
Global Week of Service is Hilton Worldwide’s largest annual volunteer service initiative and brings together Team Members from across Hilton Worldwide’s offices and hotel properties, helping to strengthen the company’s connections with its local communities and bringing Team Members closer together. In 2013, Team Members at more than 900 properties and offices completed more than 2,400 volunteer projects in 700 cities across the company’s global footprint. The projects focused on engaging Team Members and delivering on Hilton Worldwide’s commitment to Travel with Purpose by creating opportunities, strengthening communities, celebrating cultures and living sustainably. This year, the company aims to build upon this community engagement and is striving to complete more than 3,000 service projects.
