The 28th Congress of Federation of Asian Master Tailors (FAMT 2024) held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia recently, brought together over 300 master tailors, designers, and fashion enthusiasts from 6 European and 10 Asian countries.
Organized by the Federation of Tailors’ Guilds Malaysia, this congress aims to showcase individual skills and talents and promote exchanges among industry professionals from different countries. During the congress, several competitions took place. Among them was the Junior Master Cutting Contest where the Malaysian team was awarded 1st Runner-Up. The team consists of Er Wei Ming, Lee Yow Cheong, Win Chee Siong and Kho Ning Xuan.
What is the Junior Master Cutting Contest?
Mr. Er: This is the 1st time the Junior Master Cutting Contest is held and it’s for tailors below 35 years old.
What does the process involve compared to the International Master Cutting Contest?
Mr. Er: This contest pushes more young tailors in the industry. We had 8 minutes to measure the model and 9 hours to create the attire.
How did you and your team prepare for the contest?
Mr. Er: We went for group training in Ipoh & visited master tailors in Kuala Lumput to learn the techniques.
