If you live or work along Old Klang Road, you would have noticed a number of cafes and bakeries in the neighbourhoods in recent years. One of the popular bakeries/cafes in the area is Le Pont Boulangerie et Café where despite the lack of parking, has a good number of customers during lunch hour. Yesterday, I was there with my friend whom I haven’t seen in almost 2 years and we caught up for 2 hours until the weather took a turn for the worse and we dashed to the car before torrential rain.
We were lucky to find a parking spot almost right in front of Le Pont Boulangerie et Café. The ground floor houses the bakery and there is a seating area where one can enjoy the breads and coffees. We headed up to the 1st floor where more elaborate (hot) meals are served. The 2nd floor would be a good choice for corporate (product launches, seminars, business functions) or private events (engagements, baby showers, birthday/graduation/anniversary parties).
When we asked about the cafe’s specialties, we were recommended the lamb shank, one of the more expensive items on the menu. For pasta, we were recommended Le Pont Signature Pasta which the waitress informed was big enough to be shared. It didn’t look like such a big portion from the image on the menu and I was highly sceptical it could be shared unless one ate like a mouse.
Le Pont Signature Pasta @ RM29.90 – fresh fettucine, grilled mackerel, shimeji mushrooms, grilled leek served with anchovies broth on the side. The serving is really quite small despite the waitress’ assertion that it could be shared. However there is no doubting the quality as the grilled mackerel (small piece) is smoky and complemented the fettucine perfectly. The anchovies broth has the right level of salty taste and isn’t that fishy.
Carbonara @ RM23.90 – fresh fettucine in creamy base, deep-fried button mushrooms, sous-vide egg yolk, aged parmigiano cheese. A bit of a let-down for several reasons : 1) no meat, some crunchy turkey or beef bacon would have been great 2) sauce is too watery and I am sure it would have tasted much better if the sauce consistency was thicker 3) egg yolk did nothing much for the taste, only made the sauce more watery 4) the portion was seriously small.
Le Pont Signature Waffle @ RM14.90 was probably the best item we ordered as it came with 4 pieces of waffles (triangles). There were whipped cream, freezing cold vanilla ice cream, chocolate and strawberry sauce on the side. I give them points for serving vanilla ice cream so cold that it didn’t melt at all. If you visit this café, I highly recommend you try Le Pont Signature Waffle, you won’t regret this.
