Foundations take a long time to finish and it’s the one makeup item you’d better get right, in terms of texture, shade and staying power, especially for oily skins. I’ve gotten it wrong more times than I can remember. I’ve tried counter brands and drugstore brands. I prefer using foundations to BB Creams and tinted moisturizers because as I age, I need more coverage.
Sephora’s Perfecting Cover Foundation comes in a plastic pump bottle with a black cap. It claims to be oil-free and long-lasting. It’s also non-comedogenic (so it should not clog pores), paraben-free and fragrance-free.
My first impression of this foundation was how lightweight and fluid it was. It’s one of the most liquid “liquid foundations” I have ever used, if not the most liquid. Since it has such a fluid texture, it blends easily. I use my palm and fingers to blend foundation, always have as that (to me anyway) is the fastest and most practical way.
There are 12 shades altogether and mine is the fairest shade (luckily!) which is light, porcelain 05. It gives me medium coverage but that’s enough for me. It feels as if I don’t have any foundation on and looks like it too.
As it’s said to be non-oily and contains micro-spherical powders to absorb oil, it shouldn’t turn oily skins into oil slicks within a few hours but I won’t vouch for that since I don’t have oily skin. If anyone with oily skin hasn’t fared too well with this foundation, please leave a comment in this post. On my normal-dry skin, it doesn’t melt away despite the high humidity here.
Other than the fact that the lightest shade suits my skin tone very well, I like it because it does not settle into any lines or appear cakey, not even when I sweat. Overall, this is a very decent quality foundation.
It’s 35ml which is 5ml more than the majority of foundations, be they from counter brands or drugstores. It’s available at Sephora outlets and retails at RM69 which is reasonable for the quality and quantity of this foundation.
