L’occitane Malaysia organised their first ever hands-on skincare workshop for their customers last Saturday. The workshop fee was just RM50 and it was fully redeemable for their products. I’ve felt very out of place at most of the workshops I’ve attended because I seemed to be the oldest person there by a country mile and then some but at the L’occitane  “Glow With Youth” Immortelle Brightening Hands-On Workshop, I was pleased to see ladies my age and older than me. It’s always a pleasure to speak to older ladies as they have a wealth of experience in everything and much as I think I know about skincare/make-up, they can tell me more than a thing or two which I didn’t know before.

The  “Glow With Youth” Immortelle Brightening Hands-On Workshop was my first introduction to the Immortelle Brightening range which has been developed speciallly or specifically for Asian skins. That’s no surprise given the importance placed on such products in Asia. The workshop was presented by Jenny Yap, L’occitane’s Skincare Expert.

The workshop began with an introduction to the L’occitane Immortelle Brightening range. There are 3 key ingredients in this range all derived from flowers:-

  • Garden Nasturtium for smoothening and evening the skin surface as well as improving radiance.
  • Bellis Perennis for limiting the production of the enzyme responsible for melanin synthesis, reducing the activity of the enzyme and inhibiting the transfer of melanin to the skin surface.
  • Immortelle for correcting wrinkles by multiplying collagen production, boosting microcirculation and increasing protection against free radicals.

We began by sanitising our hands with a Cleansing Refreshing Cloth (very good for situations where you have little or no access to water) soaked in a lotion rich in shea extract, cassia (soothing) and orange blossom floral water (softening). The alcohol-free formula makes it suitable for use on the delicate eye area and removing make-up while refreshing.

After cleaning our hands, we applied Immortelle Milk Make-up Remover on our faces by massaging in upward motions. The cleanser can be either rinsed off or removed with a wet cotton pad. Jenny recommends milk cleansers as they can remove dirt and debris from our pores even if we aren’t wearing make-up. Even if we’ve only applied sunscreen, it should be removed at the end of the day. The cleanser should be massaged on to face and neck in upward/circular motions.

As we didn’t have access to a bowl of water, we didn’t use the Brightening Foaming Cleanser RM103/125ml (new product in the range) to double cleanse but Jenny recommends double cleansing. This is a creamy, soap-free cleanser which removes impurities and make-up.

After cleansing, we used the Brightening Water RM107/200ml soaked in a cotton pad. The cotton pad should be at least 70% wet and wiped on the T-zone using upward movements. Then turn the cotton pad over and wipe on the U-zone and neck area.

Alternatively, you can use the new limited edition Immortelle Brightening Mist RM71/100ml. It softens and refreshes skin and can be sprayed over make-up to help it remain fixed all day.

The Brightening Essence RM229/30ml is obviously the star product in the range. It stimulates exfoliation of dead skin cells, reduces dark spots and brightens skin. It comes in a dropper bottle, the essence is clear and easily absorbed. One full pump is recommended per application. It’s recommended that the essence be warmed up in the palm prior to applying to skin in upward motions. Cover face with palms for extra absorption.

The next step was my favourite as we used the gel Brightening Moisture Mask RM263/125ml. It can be used to massage the face using upward motions. I found it rather soothing and hydrating. I like this one as skin can certainly feel firmer with some diligent massage motions for micro-circulation. It can be used 2-3 times a week for 5-10 minutes.

Next we applied the Brightening Moisture Cream RM226/50ml which is a light gel-cream (I like this kind of texture as it is not at all heavy or sticky).

Of course, applying sunscreen is a must and the range has a Brightening Shield SPF40/PA+++ RM199/30ml. Can be used as  a make-up base.

Overall, this was a very informative and good workshop with a presenter who connected with the participants. I never felt bored or inattentive and would have no hesitations recommending a L’occitane workshop to anyone.

Thanks to L’occitane Malaysia for the invitation to the workshop.
