Luscious Mooncakes At Marina Bay Sands

The Mid-Autumn Festival is held on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Chinese calendar, which falls on 12th September this year. It’s a time of reunion dinner, children playing with lanterns, cracking those pumpkin seeds or “kuaci” and sitting outside to view the full moon, it’s also the time when there is a huge variety of mooncakes available everywhere. For those living in Singapore, Marina Bay Sands offers mooncakes created by its Executive Pastry Chef, Alejandro Luna, packaged in a gorgeous lantern shaped box.

Celebrations for the Mid-Autumn Festival at Marina Bay Sands will be a sweeter and bigger affair this year. Encouraged by the overwhelming response for SweetSpot mooncakes last year, Executive Pastry Chef Alejandro Luna has created one traditional and two contemporary flavors for the traditional Chinese festival.

As the creative force behind the popular Chocolate Bar at The Club at Marina Bay Sands, Chef Luna has incorporated his favorite ingredient into his delectable mooncake creations. The pièce de résistance is the handcrafted ‘Dark Chocolate Orange’ snowskin mooncake, which marries the rich flavors of dark chocolate with a touch of tanginess from the orange. Another must-try is the ‘Salted Caramel Almond Crunch’ snowskin mooncake, which pairs the robustness of velvety caramel and chocolate with the textured bite of the almond nuts. Both fillings are made from premium Valrhona chocolate. Fans of traditional tastes can choose the classic flavors of the ‘White Lotus Seed Paste with Double Yolk’ mooncake. It features exquisitely smooth and creamy white lotus seed paste encased in baked golden-hued pastries, representing traditional goodness.

The mooncakes are packaged in an exquisite box that reflects Chef Luna’s modern interpretation of the classic Chinese handicraft – the lantern. The intricate box retains the traditional elements of a timeless Chinese lantern and adds a contemporary twist with a specially designed spiral box that opens up to reveal four delectable mooncakes. The creations, together with its unique packaging, makes for an ideal gift for your loved ones or business associates this Mid Autumn Festival.

Priced between S$24 to S$60 per box, the mooncakes are available for purchase from early August, in both mini and regular sized versions. Exclusively sold at SweetSpot outlets located around Marina Bay Sands, located at Hotel Tower 3 lobby or Level 1 of the Sands Expo and Convention Center. Additionally, guests can also send their orders via email to mooncakes@marinabaysands.com and pick up the mooncakes at their convenience from any of the two locations stated above.
