Every year, MAC Cosmetics showcases its upcoming makeup trends in the Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter Fashion Shows in the USA and Europe beginning from New York right to Milan, Paris and London. The 4 Autumn/Winter makeup trends are much anticipated and are a precursor to MAC’s makeup collections for Fall 2011 and the early part of 2012. The trends have been previously described by Haritha Shan, MAC Cosmetics’ Senior Makeup Artist and Head of the Artistic Team.

To recap and set out in more detail, MAC Cosmetics Autumn/Winter Trends are:-

(1) MOD-ERNIST

This trend is about the reworking of a Sixties aesthetic through modern eyes. It’s about beige, lashes, a little bit mod and feline, makeup that looks quite minimal but is anything but effortless. The key to achieving this look is featherweight foundations, highlighters, super-sheer powders and an abundance of gloss. This look calls for a stronger brow, zero blush and when doing lashes, keep them on the feathery side.

(2) DISCO-TECH

Dark eyes are paired with an opulent mouth with lips over-the-top outré, all pulled together with products and application that are technologically and technically perfect. A lot of Chromagraphic Pencils and Pigments are used in this trend.

(3) TOUGH-LOVE

It’s about barefaced androgyny, bare lashes, hollow cheekbones, honed skin and a nude lip with masculine brows. This minimalist approach is harder than last season’s. As Lucia Pieroni said at Missoni, “they’re kick-ass cool girls”…..

(4) AMBER-GRIS

The shades for this trend are amber to grey and every shade of rust, rose, sand, bark, ochre, lavender, burnt gold and chinchilla in between. The same subtle shades are picked out on eyes as well as on lips. It’s purposefully imperfect, a little bit smudged and feeling it with fingers, not brushes.
