Halloween is one of MAC Cosmetics’ favourite times of the year. With so many PRO makeup products at hand, few brands do Halloween makeup as well as MAC. At a makeup demo this afternoon, MAC created 3 looks which will be posted in detail soon. After the demo, I had the opportunity to ask Haritha Shan some burning questions about how we can create Halloween makeup with our products at home and how she feels about horror movies.

What essential makeup items do we need to create our own Halloween makeup?

The essential items are eyeliner, eyeshadow & lip pencil of any colour, it all comes down to one’s creativity.

Do eyeshadows have to be dark colours?

Halloween isn’t just about creating scary looks. It’s about disguising yourself to look different so as long as you look different, you don’t need to stick to dark colours.

How important is it to match your makeup to your Halloween costume?

It’s not important if you just have a casual look but if you’re dressed up as Poison Ivy (from Batman), then you should match the makeup to the theme.

What’s your favourite Halloween character?

Puss In Boots because I love cats and everything to do with cats!

Which Halloween character would you most like to create a look for?

I’d like to create a character of my own such as Beauty Ripper (see image above). I am interested in creating special effects looks and personalising the look.

Are you a fan of horror movies and if so, what is your favourite?

Yes, I am a huge fan of horror movies and even watch Tamil horror movies. My favourite is “Drag Me To Hell” (2009 American supernatural horror movie directed by Sam Raimi).

How long does it take to apply Halloween makeup?

2 hours if it’s complicated makeup such as Beauty Ripper’s and 1 hour if it’s simple makeup.

What’s the most effective cleanser to remove the makeup?

Cleansing oil or cleansing oil mixed with MAC Makeup Remover Wipes.

What lipstick is dark enough to create black lips?

Eye pencil but it’s not recommended to be used frequently.
