As the Year of the Snake slithers in, let’s check out the repromoted Shell Pearl Beauty Powder from MAC’s Year of the Snake Collection. It comes in an inner box (MAC’s regular black box with white lettering) and outer box (same snaky design as the lipstick and pigment). Snake scales are embossed on the powder.
While it’s been described by MAC as a “pale peach with gold pearl”, it looks more pinkish than peachy to me. This is a finely milled powder with equally fine shimmer which doesn’t show up much in photos but look at it up close in real life and it’s there. MAC recommends that it be used as a highlight, soft blush or overall finish.
The shimmer in the powder shows up even when blush has been layered over it. Personally, I find it a bit too pink to be used as an all-over powder so I have been using it only on my cheeks and a thinner layer on my forehead and chin for highlight.
I have to be cautious and not too heavy-handed with the powder as it can enhance my pores. It gives my complexion a subtle sheen and glow, it is less shimmery than Bobbi Brown’s Shimmerbricks if you’d like a comparison. I guess it’d be right to say my complexion looks less dull and more healthy with a layer or two of this Beauty Powder.
If you’re wondering how many uses before the scaly design starts to disappear, it’s by two uses and part of the scales becomes a little less apparent but I’m not one of those who like to hang on to a product in its pristine state. The sooner I finish a product, the better.
The Beauty Powder retails at RM95/10g.
In conjunction with Chinese New Year, I am giving away these 3 lipsticks (total value RM204) which include the Freckletone Lipstick from the Year Of The Snake Collection to one reader who has to be resident in Malaysia. Just leave a comment by Tuesday 12th February 2013 on MAC’s Year Of The Snake Collection e.g. do you like it (what products do you like?) or do you not like it (reason?) AND comment on how you are spending or celebrating Chinese New Year.
GONG XI FA CAI & may everyone have a joyful celebration!
Product has been provided by MAC Malaysia for review.
Updated 14th February 2013 – To everyone who participated, many thanks for taking the time off your Chinese New Year celebrations and long break from work. The 3 lipsticks are going to Yue Rain but everyone else who participated will also receive a MAC product. Will be posting off your gifts today so watch out for the postman soon.
Gong Xi Fa Xai and thanks for the giveaway. I love the MAC Freckletone lipstick shades with the snake design on it ^v^. So lovely and intricate. The packaging is really nice and sophisticated. It is not eerie at all.
Usually, for my family it is a must to get up early and eat Mee Suah with leeks together on the first day of Chinese New Year since it is Hokkien family tradition besides the usual reunion dinner. I remember the day when i had to spend my reunion dinner&chinese New year alone on the bus because the bus broke down twice. Hungry and angry T_T
I don’t really like the MAC Shell Pearl Beauty Powder coz it looks just like an ordinary blusher, nothing special about it. And this year’s cny it’s gonna be a boring one, other than the visits to relative’s house. Tonnes of work due to be completed after the holiday ends 🙁
Nevertheless, wish you a very happy and prosperous cny! Gong Xi Fa Cai!
Mac year of the snake collection cockney lipstick colour has just the right amount of red, yellow and very fine gold glitter. The red is not too red that it can be worn to work and also not to toned down that it can be worn to a party, a true morning to night red lipstick!
I am celebrating my cny this year by wearing cockney lipstick from day one of cny and I am getting compliments from my cousins!
The word cockney reminds me of Audrey Hepburn in the movie My Fair Lady.
Gong hei gong hei
