At the core of the Next-Gen Smart Ward is a suite of integrated technologies designed to revolutionise every facet of patient care. With customised real-time monitoring systems and automated tools for healthcare professionals and patient communication, the Next-Gen Smart Ward heightens responsiveness and empowers doctors, nurses, and patients to make more informed decisions about their health. The initiative builds on MMC’s successful deployment of its Hospital Information System (HIS), seamlessly integrating IoT-driven devices and digital workflows to transform the care experience for patients.

In today’s highly integrated digital world, patients are looking for healthcare services that are convenient and highly personalised to their needs. These evolving expectations have been shaped by advancements in digital technologies and by the changes in healthcare delivery standards brought about by the pandemic. To ensure the Next-Gen Smart Ward meets the demands of patient-centric healthcare systems while improving the quality and efficiency of nursing care delivered to patients,
MMC carried out an intensive two-month pilot program in selected wards. This initiative unlocked the capabilities of the new Next-Gen Smart Ward technology, se]ng the stage for a smooth and impactful hospital-wide rollout.
Results from the pilot programme found:
– Faster and Safer Care: The speed of response for critical report notifications and actions taken has improved by 16%.
– Enhanced Engagement: Patients can now actively participate in their care through self-service tools, improving their overall warded experience. Specific patient requests were attended to 22% faster, enhancing patient satisfaction rates and overall comfort in the ward.
– Bedside Empowerment: doctors can explain diagnostic results directly at the bedside using integrated digital tools, fostering more insightful discussions between doctors and patients.
– Operational Efficiency: Enhanced safety protocols through automated ID scanning reduce errors during procedures.
The launch of the Next-Gen Smart Ward event at MMC, graced by the presence of YAB Datuk Seri Ab Rauf bin Yusoh, Chief Minister of Malacca, underscored his unwavering support for innovations that enhance Malacca’s reputation as a leading healthcare hub. Aligned with the Visit Melaka 2024 Campaign and World Tourism Day 2025, YAB Datuk Seri Ab Rauf bin Yusoh passionately articulated how digital transformation initiatives like the Next-Gen Smart Ward launch at MMC are instrumental to attracting medical tourists which aligns with national ambitions to establish Malaysia as a premier medical tourism destination.
This transformative initiative, developed in partnership with Chang Gung Memorial Hospital under the strategic guidance of HMI Medical, signals a bold new chapter in evolving the way healthcare professionals interact with patients in the ward. To deepen the existing synergistic partnership forged between HMI Medical and Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed during the launch event, underscoring a mutual commitment to exchange experiences and knowledge in smart hospital implementation and digital transformation projects which will advance healthcare innovation through shared expertise and promotion of medical collaborations.
