Laneige launched two new products a few days ago, a skincare and make-up product. The make-up product is the Snow BB Soothing Cushion which is a new concept BB-cushion with multiple benefits. It’s a rather innovative and interesting product. In conjunction with this launch, their International Visiting Make-up Artist, Mr. Steven Lee was in town to present a make-up demo at a bloggers’ session. This isn’t Mr. Lee’s 1st visit to Malaysia as I have seen him in action a couple of years ago at another promotion.
A brief intro to Snow BB Soothing Cushion with a more in-depth/comprehensive review coming up soon – it’s a soothing and cooling product as skin feels instantly cooler by about 3 degrees Celsius upon application although Mr. Lee has the ability to cool skin by 6 degrees Celsius with the product. The trick is in the distance from which the powder puff is patted on to skin as this would increase the cooling effect. I haven’t mastered the art although I will certainly give it a go.
Mr. Lee prefers to control skin temperature because skin temperature that is too high will affect the make-up application. How to control skin temperature? Mr. Lee applied toner or in Laneige terms “refiner” on to a cotton pad and applied it upwards and outwards. Then he poured more refiner on to the other side of the cotton pad and applied it in patting motions. In this way, skin will be cooler. Skin temperature should be as low as possible.
Essence helps prepare skin and Mr. Lee applied the essence in a downward motion. Pressing the essence between his palms, he applied it lightly to skin in patting motions. Moisturiser protects the complexion just as a bandage protects a wound. It’s the last step before complexion make-up. Mr. Lee recommends using a sponge to apply moisturiser if hands are too hot.
The temples and nose area are where skin is most thin and have the most sebum so when applying moisturiser, Mr. Lee applies to the cheeks first and the remainder on the temples and nose area.
Snow BB Soothing Cushion is suitable for all skin types but BB Essence Balm is not suitable for dry skins as it gives a matte finish. Those with combination skins can use BB Cream and that gives continuous coverage. The Snow BB Soothing Cushion is apparently very long-lasting and will last the whole day.
There are 2 techniques to apply the Snow BB Soothing Cushion – pressing or patting. Apply lightly to the temples, T-zone and mouth area. To achieve glowing skin particularly at the temples and T-zone area, apply an extra layer of Snow BB Soothing Cushion to contour the elevated areas i.e. forehead and nose.
For those with dry skins, do not pat on loose powder otherwise hydration will be absorbed into the powder puff. Instead, apply with pressing motions. Brush off any excess powder. Apply an extra layer of powder on upper and lower eye areas to make skin brighter. Apply a layer of powder on the eyebrows as well so that it doesn’t become clumpy when you draw the eyebrows.
The previous technique of following the tip of the nose as a guide to drawing the eyebrows is considered passe as it makes one look older. Instead, Mr. Lee recommends following the tip of the mouth. Use a brush to spread out the line after drawing in with pencil. For eyeliner, draw from the outer eye inwards and fill up with colour.
Simple make-up is now in trend. Use overlapping colours over the eyeliner to diminish the harshness of the eyeliner. Add on brighter colour as a finishing touch. Clip and hold the eyelash curler over eyelashes to achieve the “U” effect. Blush is applied to the hairline and lips are kept natural.
It was an enlightening and enjoyable evening. There’s nothing quite like learning make-up tips from brand’s international visiting make-up artists, Mr. Lee will be present at Laneige’s promotion area at MidValley’s North Court tomorrow.
Hi Juniper! I heard that the Laneige Snow BB Soothing Cushion in Singapore and Korea have different coverage as Singapore demand requested for a more coverage product. Do you know does Malaysia version of the BB cushion is same as Korea or Singapore? Thanks.
According to Laneige, there shouldn’t be any difference in the coverage. However, there’s a possibility that darker shades i.e No 2 and No 31 are made available in most ASEAN countries.
