I don’t know about you but I always get a bit skeptical when a mascara is known to give false lash effects, not that I haven’t purchased mascaras before based on such a claim. Hey, which woman wouldn’t want mascaras that make their lashes look as if they’re wearing false lashes? I do like false lashes but I find it a pain and a hassle to put them on so I would look twice or thrice at mascaras that claim to give the false lash effect.

Max Factor False Lash Effect Waterproof Mascara is a bulky, chunky piece of black tube with a blue band bearing the brand name just below the cover. The brush itself is thick and tapered, not sure if this is the right shape for Asian eyelashes because I found it a bit too big and cumbersome to apply to each and every lash.

The bristles are rubbery and spiky and I can see that they hold quite a bit of formula so I don’t need to insert the wand into the tube again for application on the other eye. It gives lashes a slight lift without the need for an eyelash curler. Lashes are quite well defined and separated. The black isn’t so intense to be scary during the day, it’s a very natural black which enhances my eyelashes nicely.

In terms of performance, there is more volumising to be seen than lengthening. I swipe the bristles across my eyelashes at least 4-5 times in order to achieve the effect shown in the images above. While my lashes do look like they have more volume and some length, I wouldn’t go so far as to say there is a false lash effect, not for me anyway but if it has worked for you, then I am happy for you.

There’s no clumping and no smudging. This one is long-lasting and I can wear it all day under all kinds of extreme conditions without seeing a trace of it on the under-eye area. Just for this aspect alone, I say “Well done, Max Factor!”.
