At Oriental Sun, Sunway Pyramid

During the 1st week of January, Sunway Malls launched their Dragon’s Blessing Lunar New Year Celebration in great fanfare at Sunway Pyramid and after the festive launch (this mall does have the best CNY decoration with the huge golden dragon hovering above the temple), media were treated to lunch at Oriental Sun located at Ground Floor of the mall. The restaurant can seat 170 people and serves modern Cantonese cuisine.

This is the menu:

Everything on this menu was superb

There were 8 courses and as you all can imagine, it was a very filling lunch. There was plenty to go round even though my table was full with 10 pax (all very nice media who allowed me to take photos before tucking in).

The waitress said all the right things while adding the condiments to the Yee Sang
Lobster & Salmon Yee Sang

This is without a doubt the best Yee Sang I have had so far this year. There was a lot of lobster and salmon and all the colourful ingredients blended beautifully and perfectly.

Double Boiled Fish Maw & Dried Scallop Soup

There’s nothing as good as individual bowls of soup compared to a huge bowl of soup which is scooped out as those individual bowls of double boiled soup just have a more premium taste and it’s a lot hotter since they have lids which stay on until they are served to each person. The fish maw and dried scallop were the creme de la creme of seafood.

Steamed Marble Goby with Stuffed Beancurd Guang Xi Style

The fact that the fish came with stuffed beancurd was a bonus. The fish was steamed to perfection without being overdone and I really loved the little pieces of stuffed beancurd.

Steamed Lotus Wrap Chicken with Yam

This is the 1st time I have eaten chicken steamed in lotus wrap and suffice to say I would very much like to have the chicken cooked this way again.

Stir Fried Prawn, Lily Bulbs and Mushroom with Seasonal Dou Miao

Can there be a better pairing of prawns with vegetables than this dish? I can’t say which was better – the prawns or the vegetables. It was simply too good!

Charcoal Flamed Claypot Rice with Waxed Meat

This claypot rice is so huge and laden with waxed meat. Could smell the strong aroma of the waxed meat but I didn’t try this one as I am averse to waxed meat, can’t even stand the smell of it. From childhood till now, I have never liked waxed meat but everyone else at my table loved this and took generous helpings.

Bird’s Nest Lemongrass Infusion with Basil Seeds & Mixed Fruits

After the main courses had been served, it was a bit of a wait for the dessert by which time more than half of the media at my table had left because they had other work/assignments. I had another event in KL to cover too but I really wanted to try the above dessert as I love all the components. It’s such a pretty looking bowl of ‘tong sui’, tasted absolutely marvelous as expected because everything else before this was outstanding.

Deep Fried Nian Gao with Yam & Sweet Potato

Oriental Sun excels in desserts as well as main courses as this dessert was not oily at all and the exterior is thin and crispy. Such a wonderful dessert to end a memorable meal. Sunway Malls truly deserves much praise for giving such a generous and delicious lunch.
