As a purpose driven brand committed to driving positive change, Nando’s Malaysia has launched the No Chuckin’ Our Chicken food donation programme in 11 of its restaurants across Malaysia. The programme, developed in partnership with KECHARA Soup Kitchen, The Lost Food Project, Malaysia Relief Agency Sabah, Mutiara Foodbank, Kita Infak and Lalamove, amongst others, will see Nando’s donate its excess rice and chicken safely and securely to communities in need.

The programme, which has also been carried out by Nando’s UK, Australia, US, Canada and Singapore for the last few years, taps on the expertise of Food Donation Connection (FDC), a global organization that manages food donation programmes specifically for the F&B industry around the world. FDC also helped Nando’s establish the SOPs to ensure the quality, hygiene, and longevity of all food items that are processed and stored for donation. This includes tracking the donations and supplying food-safe freezer bags for the secure storage of the food awaiting donation.

Through the initial roll out in Malaysia, Nando’s will be donating food to communities in the Klang Valley, Johor Bharu, Malacca, Penang, Sabah and Sarawak, benefitting over 25 homes and local charities.

All chicken served in Nando’s restaurants are prepared in strict adherence to the Nando’s Gold Standard; chickens need to be fully cooked through, evenly basted with a browned skin that has even grill marks. Chickens selected for No Chuckin’ Our Chicken adheres to Nando’s Gold Standard.

Speaking of the effort, Mac Chung Lynn, Group CEO of Nando’s Malaysia said, “At Nando’s we are guided by our global purpose of delivering positive impact to the communities we operate in. Our Chicken with a Heart community outreach efforts reflect this commitment as we seek to help those most affected by the Movement Control Order (MCO) and COVID-19. No Chuckin’ Our Chicken adds another significant dimension to these efforts by strengthening our commitment to environmental sustainability by eliminating food wastage, while also continuing to improve food supply and security for communities in need.”

Launched in March this year, Chicken with a Heart is Nando’s Malaysia’s flagship programme to bring positive change to the community, celebrating local heroes and helping vulnerable members of the community. Under this initiative, Nando’s has worked with a wide range of non-profits, grassroot organizations and members of the public to donate Nando’s meals to frontliners, students and the homeless, and donate non-perishable food items to the poor through the Kind Dining programme, which ran from May to August this year. Collectively, these efforts have delivered RM 135,000 worth of food and supplies to local communities, distributed to beneficiaries through 17 charity partners.

Nando’s now has two permanent programmes that are focused on community outreach: No Chuckin’ Our Chicken and the loyalty member reward donations called the Gift-It programme, that allows Nando’s loyal fans to donate their ¼ chicken, ½ chicken and whole chicken rewards directly through the Nando’s App for distribution to the homeless and vulnerable every month.
