So I had my Sally “The Nightmare Before Christmas” Halloween costume reserved. The next step was to think about the makeup. After all, I was aiming for the top prize for best makeup look at MAC’s Halloween Party and 2nd best was not an option, too “kiasu” for that especially when renting the costume wasn’t cheap.
Thanks to Google and youtube, there are so many makeup tutorials for the look I wanted to achieve. I knew that the main thing was to use an eyeliner properly to draw the facial scars. I also consulted with a MAC ex-MUA who advised me to get white foundation as skin tone foundation just wouldn’t do for the look. I needed to look as pale and ghastly as possible. It was she who directed me to a kiosk selling Meiko cosmetics at The Gardens Mall. I knew exactly where the kiosk was because I’ve seen their makeup brushes and had made a mental note to check them out more closely one day.
Sure enough, they had the white cream foundation called Naturactor Cover Face. I didn’t know if this would be suitable for my use since I am unfamiliar with white foundations. Well, I didn’t need to look like a Kabuki actor or a geisha. After all, I wasn’t competing with participants from makeup academies. Now that would be on a whole different playing field altogether.
Other than this white shade, the salesgirl mentioned they have green and yellow shades as well as natural foundation shades. It was just RM25 for 20g so even if this didn’t work out, I wouldn’t feel so bad. So on Halloween, I applied it with a sponge and it was enough to turn my face whitish but not as white as a Kabuki actor/geisha.
It’s very easy to blend on to skin with a sponge but after a few hours of wear, it started to look cakey up close. For this kind of price, I didn’t expect much anyway. It suited my purposes and I didn’t know where else to scout for another white foundation. I guess it can make your skin go whiter if you kept applying more layers but I didn’t have the luxury of time in applying this makeup.
