MAC A Fantasy Of Flowers Collection may be a smallish collection by their spring collection standards but there was still plenty to talk about with Haritha Shan as she shared make-up techniques with regard to the collection. To those of us non-professional make-up artists, it isn’t that easy to grasp stuff like the colour spectrum and how certain eye shadows go with specific lip shades. It may not be rocket science but it isn’t that elementary either.
How does this collection reflect MAC’s Spring/Summer 2014 Trends?
It reflects The New Eye-Deal which is not about looking black – it’s about “sooting the night” on eye make-up. It’s technique driven which means applying eye make-up according to your eye shape.
What are the main colour themes of this collection?
This season is all about welcoming spring back. The colour scheme is a garden of flowers, you have shades of green which reflect the leaves, pinks, peaches, oranges and purples which the colours of blooming flowers. It’s like a lush, tropical garden like the Garden of Eden.
What eye shadow colour combinations would you recommend for those with fairer and darker skin tones?
Pinks and purples on fairer skins and olive, gold, brown on tanned skin.
Which MAC brush should be used to apply the Mineralize Eye Shadow?
239 Eye Shader Brush (synthetic goat) which is tapered, it will pick up colours and give more intensity.
Are the Fluidlines used mainly as eye liner or can they double up as eye shadow? What is the best brush for applying Fluidlines?
Yes, they can be used both as eye liner and eye shadow. Use the 236 blending/shader brush to apply it as eye shadow ideally over a powder eye shadow and then use an eye liner brush to apply Fluidline for a monochromatic look.
What would be your recommendation to those who don’t feel confident about wearing pastel pink or blue pink coloured lipsticks like Snapdragon and Rose Lily and Cremesheen Glass like Playful Petal and Pagoda?
Mix it up with a bright coloured lip pencil in your make-up stash.
Do you have any suggestions on how one should combine lipsticks and lip glasses with their eye make-up?
If your eye shadow is too pink, don’t use orange toned lipsticks. Pair pink eye shadows with pink lipsticks. Blue and pink eye shadows complement pink lips. Brown, orange and green eye shadows complement orange lip colours.
Which of the Mineralize Skinfinish (Perfect Topping & Stereo Rose) can be used as highlighter and blush?
Perfect Topping is used as a highlighter with Petal Power Blush over it. Stereo Rose can be used as a highlighter and blush.
How should the pigments best be used? Any suggested colour combinations?
Spray Fix+ on the 239 brush and there’s a water colour effect when used wet. When used dry, you can see the reflects in the pigments as it’s very sheer. Pigments are buildable so you can layer them on. You can use Chatreuse Bouquet on top and Violet on the bottom.
What flower would be in your Fantasy Of Flowers?
Azalea as it’s something different and unique.
Thanks! Really great tips!
