The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® Malaysia is collaborating with the Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia (TCS) this year to safeguard our local endangered painted terrapins. Part of The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® Malaysia’s Caring Cup program, the new Save Terry campaign aims to raise awareness and rally Malaysians together to support vital turtle conservation efforts.

The latest initiative upholds The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® Malaysia enduring mission to effect meaningful change, through their long-established Caring Cup program. Last year, they collaborated with Daryl Kho, an award-winning Malaysian author, to host a public book-reading session of his bestselling children’s fantasy novel ‘Mist-Bound: How to Glue Back Grandpa’, which draws from his personal journey with a loved one affected by dementia. Beyond raising awareness of the malady, the collaboration drew the support of fellow Malaysians and successfully raised RM30,000 for the Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation Malaysia (ADFM). The funds will primarily be channeled to dementia care training, with the goal of empowering individuals with the know-how to deliver exceptional care for individuals grappling with dementia.

“Just as we remain dedicated to delivering positive experiences within our cafés, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® Malaysia also puts positive change in our community at the core of our business. Through our Caring Cup Program, we rally around the issues that matter to our communities. Needless to say, the invaluable support from our customers and brew crew has been a steadfast driving force behind our successful initiatives over the years – and we cannot fully express the depth of our gratitude,” said Fiona Rodrigues, Head of Marketing & Innovation, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® Malaysia.

“This year, our efforts find expression in environmental conservation, as we put the spotlight on the lesser-known painted terrapin species in Malaysia. Through the new Save Terry campaign, we extend a heartfelt invitation to all Malaysians. Join us in safeguarding and rehabilitating these endangered painted terrapins together. Let us leave behind a legacy of compassion and the environmental stewardship for our future generations,” Fiona added.

The painted terrapin is a unique species native to the freshwater rivers of Malaysia, now facing the perilous threat of extinction. Due to habitat destruction, illegal poaching of eggs for consumption, and pollution, the population of these vulnerable terrapins has drastically declined over the years, leaving them critically endangered.

The Save Terry campaign, a collaborative effort by The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® Malaysia and the Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia (TCS), presents multiple avenues for the public to further the conservation of the painted terrapin. Malaysians can make a personal contribution by “adopting” a terrapin through TCS at any The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf® Malaysia café or conveniently online via the dedicated microsite. Alternatively, customers can show their support by purchasing exclusive “Terry-pins”, available for RM15 each. With the purchase of four pins, patrons will automatically become terrapin adopters. All proceeds from Terry-pin sales go directly to TCS, amplifying their efforts in safeguarding and rehabilitating painted terrapin populations.

For those seeking additional ways to support TCS, exclusive Save Terry merchandise will be made available for purchase in stores in the near future, the sales of which will contribute a designated percentage directly to TCS, supporting the organisation’s conservation endeavors.
