Since Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill opened in Sunway Resort Hotel, it’s been on my bucket list to dine there. Well, I finally had the chance to do just that last Monday. They have a set lunch menu where customers can choose between a 2-course/RM148 or 3-course menu/RM188. This set menu is really value-for-money. I read an article online that given a choice of 2 courses and if one had to choose between starters and dessert, one should always choose dessert but I have forgotten the reason why. Anyway, I have always peferred dessert to starters as dessert is more Instagram-worthy.
My reservation was for noon which is when the restaurant opens. After checking in, we are ushered to a waiting area while they prepare the table. After all, we arrive when the restaurant is just open so the staff need to ensure the table is ready for diners.
Didn’t have to wait long before we were ushered to our table along with other customers. Had a good view of Sunway Lagoon but I reckon it’s a better view at night with the lights on down there. I had already read the set menu online before going to the restaurant as I wanted to be prepared.
There are 3 options for Starter:
Globe Artichoke Soup
Classic Caesar Salad
Arnold Bennett Twice-baked Souffle
Also 3 options for Main:
Tortellini
Steak Frites
Grilled Miso Salmon
Only 2 options for Dessert:
64% Manjari Chocolate Tart
Blackberry Parfait
It was a no-brainer for me, I chose Steak Frites which is 42 days dry-aged beef served with Cafe de Paris butter and Roscoff Onion. But before that, we were served complimentary bread rolls consisting of focaccia, olives and multigrain. For the first time ever, these breads came heated up and crispy. They were served with bone marrow butter, the taste was simply amazing.
We were really off to a good start as the buns tasted so good with the bone marrow butter. I don’t want to eat normal bread again after this unforgettable experience.
My steak was medium well done as requested as I get squeamish seeing blood on any meat. This was as tender as wagyu and the Cafe de Paris butter was like the icing on the steak, so to speak.
Actually the French Fries are served without any sauce or condiment and I requested for tomato sauce but no, they don’t have normal tomato sauce. They have something way better which is apple tomato sauce which tastes tangier than your regular tomato sauce. It was so good, I asked for another portion of the sauce.
My Blackberry Parfait consisted of Lemon Mousse, Blackberry Sorbet and Lemon Balm. Sweetness level was perfect. The lemon taste was superb and most importantly, such a delight to sight and tastebuds.
The Chocolate Tart consists of Honeycomb, Yoghurt Sorbet and Extra Virgin Olive Oil. No worries about this being too sweet as it is 64% chocolate which gives it a superb bitter taste. Strictly for super fans of chocolate of which I am not.
Service was impeccable throughout the entire meal. The waiter was friendly, polite, informative, attentive without being intrusive and altogether gave stellar and outstanding service which I hold in high regard.
