It’s my last review of 2019 and I am so glad the year is over as it hasn’t been a good year for me. I was looking forward to my visit to SMORES Jaya One yesterday evening and before going there, I was walking towards a shopping centre to pick up some pet food from the supermarket, I tripped and fell injuring my knee and right wrist so I am now typing with my left hand very slowly. I knew I was in trouble when I heard something snap in my wrist. I had to rush into Caring to get a cool plaster and medications. As a result of the fall, my wrist has been swollen and sore till now. So much for a happy new year.
Anyway, I made it to SMORES Jaya One with my wrist bandaged and ate only with my left hand. The restaurant has a deli counter with all kinds of delicious meats. They would be great for breakfast. One can choose to sit inside or outside. Inside, wine lovers will be spoilt for choice.
In the menu, there is a wide variety of Starters. Ordered three dishes for the Mains.
Smoky Carbon appealed to me as soon as I saw it on the menu. It has crispy pork bacon, button mushroom topped with Italian Cream, cheese and poached egg. I like all the ingredients. It was so rich and creamy, came to the table piping hot. Everything blended together well. I would have loved more pork bacon (so crispy) and button mushroom. The poached egg was the pièce de résistance and definitely added to the value.
Devonshire Roulade is slow roasted pork belly stuffed with English herbs. The pork belly has a layer of fat, the skin is crispy and the meat is delicious thanks to the herbs. The salad is the perfect complement to the pork.
R & B consists of BBQ ribs, Spanish rice, papadam and coleslaw. The BBQ ribs reminded me of “char siew”, some parts were more tender than others. Parts of it were bristly and got stuck in between my teeth. The sambal was fiery hot. The Spanish rice was like biryani, very fragrant.
Cocopanana was the best dish of all. This coconut panna cotta with coconut ice cream and melon, kiwi and pineapple compote is delightful, a real tropical fruits wonderful dessert I wanted more of.
