Spicy Fare At Riverboat

It was Saturday and I was looking for somewhere I could have a late lunch in Taman Desa. I thought of a Thai restaurant which had been reviewed recently in The Malay Mail and headed towards Taman Danau Desa. Now I know where RT Pastry House is since I used to be a regular there but had no idea where Riverboat might be. After walking around aimlessly for a few minutes, I asked for directions and was pointed towards the row of showhouses at the opposite end of RT. When you see Watsons, keep walking towards the T-junction (you are on the right track when you see Free Mori) and turn left at the T-junction.

Riverboat has been open for business for 3 months and serves up very authentic Thai food since one of the owners is actually Thai. There are a number of choices on the menu. If you are pressed for time, there are the rice dishes under “Fast Food” heading. Prices for these dishes range between RM10.90 to RM14.90.

Their signature “Fast Food” and that means most recommended and popular is the Steam/Fried Rice With Minced Pork/Chicken, Basil & Egg (Pad Krapow Moo/Kai Rad Kao) RM10.90. Then there’s also Stir Fry Pork In Red Curry With Rice & Egg (Pad Prik Gaeng Moo) RM10.90. Can pick up some Thai in relation to food while reading the menu!

Portions are moderate, can satisfy light eaters. The dishes are super spicy especially the Steam Rice With Minced Pork, there was a liberal sprinkling of cili padi among the minced pork. I was reaching for my glass of water in between spoonfuls of the meat but it’s all very delicious despite the spiciness.

What I liked the most was the Boat Noodle, small serving of Pork Soft Meat Boat Noodle is RM2. Soft Meat is Soup Braised Meat. You can also have Pork Fresh Meat Boat Noodle which is Seasoned Sliced Meat. The broth in the Pork Soft Meat Boat Noodle was so yummy that you’d find yourself drinking it till the last drop. The noodles are smooth and so good that I wished I’d asked for a bigger portion of the noodles.

They offer just 2 kinds of desserts, the ever ubiquitous Tub Tim Grob RM4.90 which we all know and love and Pandan Dessert x 2. This Tub Tim Grob was perfect for such a humid day but I have to say the portion’s rather small.

Prices are subject to 6% service tax.

  1. I guess it is really authentic Thai because it is really spicy! I can’t handle such spiciness although the food is really good. It is challenging for my poor stomach and tongue.
