Star World Woman Of Worth Event

A true blue Scandal fan will go to great lengths to obtain an invitation to attend the Season 5 premiere of the show. I’ve watched every episode of the previous 4 seasons. I’ve been hooked on the show ever since the very 1st episode and I love Olivia Pope as she has so much strength and a good heart despite a steely exterior most of the time. Also, she is so stylish and sophisticated all the time. A lot of women can take fashion tips from her.

I found out about Star World Woman Of Worth Event 48 hours before the event because I was googling for information on the new season of Scandal, didn’t know who to contact to snare an invitation and went about it the roundabout way by contacting the editor of Style magazine who thankfully replied and directed me to her colleagues at Astro who asked me to collect my ticket from the Astro Publications office in Serdang so I went looking for the place yesterday afternoon which took about an hour since I have never ever been to Serdang before. I thought it was a bit strange that I had to have the physical invitation since I’d explained to them who I was and I thought they’d include me as media but I wasn’t about to argue with them and lose the invitation.

Then at the venue (Le Meridien Hotel), I saw familiar faces, i.e. the PR firm handling the event invites me for other lifestyle events and somehow didn’t include me for this event which I very much wanted to attend simply because I am a genuine fan of Star World shows, Empire and Scandal. They actually thought they’d invited me as they maintained that I was on their list and so I didn’t even need to produce the invitation card which took so much effort to get.

If only I knew who the PR firm was beforehand, I need not have wasted time going all the way to Serdang which to be honest, made me rather annoyed since some of the guests aren’t fans of either shows and have not watched a single episode of either. So there you have it, I who can be categorized as both shows #1 fan had to move mountains to secure an invitation I didn’t need in the end while others who had no interest in either shows were invited just like that.

Life is ironic and I seem to be forever in the “forgotten bloggers” category no matter what I do. I felt like such a blogger of no worth when I realized that even bloggers who had no idea what “Scandal” and “Empire” were about were invited without having to scoot over to Serdang to collect the invitation.

Some guests even left before the screening of the premiere so they can’t have been there to watch. I could even have done without the dinner because my one purpose of being there was to watch the premiere. I just felt very inconvenienced that I had to go out of my way to collect the invitation when everyone else just seemed to have received e-invitations and does it seem fair that someone like me who can dissect every character in Scandal and Empire had to go to such idiotic lengths when those who didn’t even know what the shows were about had it so easy? Seriously, I felt like putting my palm to my face when I wasn’t even asked to produce the invitation card since I am under media. I don’t have a say in who gets invited nor do I care but you’d think they’d prefer genuine fans like me who can blog about the shows because they understand what they are about. I wouldn’t care that I wasn’t invited for the season premiere of The Walking Dead since I am not a fan and in fact, I wasn’t invited for that one either.

Last night’s event began with sharing sessions from three exceptional and inspiring women in their own light: Low Ngai Yuen, famously known as a host at a local women’s show and current director behind Kaki Seni, Choo Mei Sze, a blogger and owner of a social media management firm whom has bravely triumphed over the Big C, and Paula Malai Ali, former VJ and current presenter for FOX Sports as they shared their struggles, joys and success tips.

Scandal Season 5, part of Star World’s Same Day as U.S. programming is a high-powered drama centred on Olivia Pope who dedicates her life to protecting and defending the public images of the nation’s elite by keeping secrets under wraps. Pope’s team are at the top of their game when it comes to getting the job done for their clients, but it becomes apparent that these “gladiators in suits” who specialize in fixing the lives of other people, have trouble fixing those closest at hand, their own. Scandal premieres on Star World and Star World HD (Channels 711 and 722) on 25 September 2015, Friday at 9.00pm.

Besides that, another female-driven hit series, EMPIRE returns as a sexy and powerful drama about the head of a music empire whose three sons and ex-wife all battle for his throne. As the Lyons slug it out, an emotional chess game begins that will either cause the family’s destruction or redemption. Lives and loves will be lost as the complicated family will come together and fall apart over the elusive throne. Empire Season 2 premieres a day earlier, Thursday, 24 September 2015 at 9.00pm, also on Star World and Star World HD (Channels 711 and 722).

I was asked whether I’d like to interview the 3 ladies who shared their inspiring stories and ordinarily, I would have agreed as I can conjure up interview questions the way a magician springs a rabbit out of his hat but in light of my not so pleasant experience of driving all over Serdang, I was really in no mood to ask even one question. For once, just once, I’d really like to be on the ‘priority bloggers’ list but then that’s wishful thinking because from what I’ve seen, the more you do, the less you get rewarded while the reverse is true.

Sometimes I wonder whether if I downgrade myself, blog once in a purple moon, take lots of selfies and just cut and paste the press release of all events, don’t review any products and remain ignorant about everything shown on tv, would that get me more invitations? I’m beginning to believe that is so.

  1. How sarcastic it is! How could one blog about the event when they don’t even bother to finish the premiere? They have asked you to drive all the way to Serdang for an useless invitation card and that’s really too much of them! I know life is always unfair but this is way beyond mortals’ tolerance level.

  2. Sometimes the powers that be and the enablers out there fail to understand the demographics of their viewers and they unfortunately end up inviting all the wrong people. As a result they end up ignoring and missing out on their real target audience, i.e. those who have actually watched every single episode of both Empire and Scandal!

A series like Scandal has the Washington political scene and goings on as its backdrop and so not many in this country may be interested in that.

Whereas the series Empire is about the lives of an African-American family in the music industry, and it is all about the artists, musicians, music producers, record company executives, rappers and music moghuls etc.

Both series attract different viewships and may not appeal to everyone out there.
