Moisturiser keeps the skin moist and thus it plays a vital role in reducing eczema flares. Some moisturisers in the market have special properties to take care of eczema skin, especially on those stubborn itchy spots. As of now, medical device cream is the latest agent to manage eczema effectively.

Launched in 2011, Atopiclair, the first medical device cream of its kind, is well accepted in Malaysia. This non-steroidal treatment and controller cream, which is USFDA-approved does not have added colouring, fragrance, paraben and animal derivatives. It is also ‘Muslim-friendly’ because it does not contain any porcine (khinzir) derivatives or ingredients. Atopiclair has been clinically tested to be effective and well tolerated among infants, children and adults who are suffering from mild to moderate eczema.

Dr. Steven Januar Kusmanto,  Regional Therapeutic Area Manager, A. Menarini Asia-Pacific Pte Ltd, shared some of the clinical findings during his speech. “Atopiclair is highly effective in providing fast itch relief and good eczema control,” he said. Studies have shown that 9 out of 10 infants, children and adults, who were treated to Atopiclair, subsequently had no need for steroid rescue medication within the study period.

Another unique feature of Atopiclair is its ability to support healthy skin barrier function by preventing water loss from the skin surface for up to 72 hours. It also effectively repairs the dry and broken barrier function in eczema skin. Atopiclair is formulated with powerful antioxidants that work synergistically to enhance the natural skin barrier. Therefore, regular application of Atopiclair helps prevent affected skin area from future flare-ups.

Treating Eczema With Atopiclair is more cost-saving and cost-effective

Dr. Kusmanto went on to explain that Atopiclair is a more cost-saving and cost-effective treatment. He cited a recent study published in the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology which showed that patients using Atopiclair could save up to RM3,000 per year because of lesser medical expenses, reduced drug use and increase in productivity time as compared to patients using conventional moisturisers.

As part of the company’s CSR programme, Menarini is working together with Caring Pharmacy to raise funds for the Eczema Kidz Club HKL in conjunction with NEZAM 2015. From May to September 2015, for every bottle or tube of Atopiclair sold at Caring Pharmacy, RM3 will be donated to this cause. The campaign sponsors hope to raiseRM10,000 during these five months.
