Positioning itself as an eco-friendly and sustainable community builder, Tropicana Corporation Berhad (“Tropicana” or “Group”) inked an MOU with GreenRE Sdn Bhd (“GreenRE”) to pledge a long-term partnership anchored on sustainable living. This MOU demonstrated Tropicana’s commitment to sustainable practices and green building excellence for its developments.
This green partnership focuses on adopting best practices, as outlined by GreenRE, a green building certification body formed by Malaysia’s Real Estate and Housing Developers’ Association (“REHDA”) that promotes sustainability in Malaysia’s property industry.
Khoo Thian Shyang, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Tropicana shared, “For more than 45 years, Tropicana has been redefining the art of living. We are the master planner for more than 10 townships across Malaysia and we recognise the importance of sustainable living.
Today marks another significant milestone for Tropicana Group as we pledge our long-term commitment towards the Green Building Practices. This initiative also aligns with Tropicana’s ongoing ESG commitments, while encouraging property buyers to adopt greener living, reduce carbon footprints and embrace a cleaner, greener future. With this, we can also help to minimise the environmental impact on our operations and developments.” Today we received the GreenRE provisional award for two new developments, Avisa 2 at Tropicana Alam Puncak Alam and TwinPines at Tropicana Grandhill Genting Highlands. We are honoured to receive these awards and we extend our appreciation to GreenRE for their
recognition and support. By partnering with GreenRE, we will continuously invest in green initiatives and embrace best practices.” Khoo added.
Over the years, Tropicana has built more than 17 developments that have received the hallmark of green building certifications, demonstrating its ongoing efforts for sustainable living. Speaking at the signing ceremony, GreenRE Executive Director Ashwin Thurairajah shared, “Tropicana has been an advocate of green building best practices for many years, and we are pleased to enter into this long-term partnership reflecting our united vision for a greener future. With this partnership, we hope to encourage other corporate citizens to join our mission in making Malaysia a greener nation.”
OVERVIEW OF GREEN FEATURES
Building townships since 1979, Tropicana has broadened its position from a resort-style developer to a sustainable community planner anchored on its 8 distinct development DNAs and 3 ESG pillars. Tropicana’s design approach focuses on indoor and outdoor spaces that are in ecological and aesthetic harmony with their surroundings. As Tropicana continue their mission to Redefine the Art of Living, they are also adopting ESG best practices in our aim to connect with the communities and forge a sustainable future where all our townships offer a live-work-playlearn-grow environment.
As Tropicana is embarking on their journey to support Malaysia’s ambition to become carbon neutral by 2050, Tropicana has taken steps to lower the Group’s carbon emissions by developing sustainable townships providing many facilities/amenities such as scenic central parks, lakes & jogging tracks; woodland methodology with drought torrent plants; energy & water-efficient home fittings; green concrete & low VOC paint; dedicated recycling area, high-speed internet connectivity, EV charging stations as well as great accessibility to major highways and MRT stations for better connectivity. Quality remains as one of the most important parameters in property development, alongside timely delivery and price.
To ensure its purchasers receive the best value, all Tropicana developments are evaluated and certified by QLASSIC, a body instituted by CIDB and serve as benchmarks for workmanship quality, safety and health
aspects in construction projects.
With Tropicana’s sizeable landbank of 2,097 acres with an estimated GDV of RM112 billion, the Group is in a good position to deliver sustainable performance in the next few years, continuing its mission to forging futures and connecting communities.
